A stone staircase leads to the Calvario de Las Cruces, which is classified as a “Lugar Singular” (No. 27). Check local conditions before your visit, as they may change. The boundaries of protected areas and the different sections of hiking and cycling routes are also helpful for finding your way.

Culture and setting

The Sitio de Interés Científico de Interián is bordered to the east by the Las Cruces neighborhood in Garachico. To the south, the protected area of Hacienda de La Quinta Roja is bordered by the road between San Pedro de Daute and Las Cruces. These landmarks place Las Cruces within a landscape where protected-area boundaries follow specific places and roads.

The TF-421 leads from San Juan del Reparo to Las Cruces and back in the opposite direction. Stage 5 also reaches the village and then descends along the TF-421 towards San Pedro. This makes it easy to understand both the road connection and the route of this stage that follows.

On foot: comparing stages

Stage 5 reaches Las Cruces and then descends along the TF-421 towards San Pedro. The descent offers a view of Playa de Garachico. From San Pedro, the stage continues downhill at a steady gradient, with tight bends. If you are planning to walk this stage, be aware that a section of the TF-421 has neither a hard shoulder nor a pavement for several metres. Check the route and conditions before setting out.

The Ruta de las Haciendas de Daute passes through Las Cruces and close to Hacienda El Carmen. The Los Silos–Garachico walking trail reaches Las Cruces only in its final section, which is paved and has only a gentle incline. These routes therefore offer different points of comparison for planning your day: Stage 5 is characterised by its descent, bends and views of Playa de Garachico, while the Los Silos–Garachico route offers details about the surface and gradient of its final section. Check the current route and conditions before setting out on these trails, too.

Cycling and landscape

The cycling climb near Las Cruces has gradients of 5.6%, with only a few metres offering a chance to recover. The route is winding and offers continuous sea views; as you approach the summit, the landscape becomes increasingly lush. When planning your ride, the gradient and recovery details are as much a part of the climb as its bends and views.

The road towards Las Cruces passes through a protected area with the finest stands of almácigos, palms and barbusanos in the entire protected zone. Alongside the routes’ sea views, these specific plant communities are another feature of the landscape.
