Marzagán offers several distinct ways to explore the area: its patron saint festivities, the historic heritage of the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, and the wine-growing tradition around Bodega Los Lirios. These themes represent different ways to plan a stay: a festival held on specific dates, a historic building, or a wine experience that requires advance booking.

Patron Saint Festivities and Local Traditions

The area’s festive traditions include celebrations in honour of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves and Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. The programme for the 2025 edition included a street parade, a Romería, open-air dances, traditional games and activities for the whole family. This combination brings together religious celebrations and community events.

The main day’s programme included a Diana Floreada, a Mass and a solemn procession through the neighbourhood’s main streets. The traditional Romería offering procession began at Llanos de Cuatro Caminos.

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves

Construction of the Ermita in Marzagán began in February 1783; the building may have been completed the following year. The chapel has a single nave and a Mudéjar-style roof structure beneath a tiled roof. It is protected as a monument in its entirety. Its interior features a Baroque altarpiece and a vera iconica painting of Nuestra Señora de la Blanca, dating from the chapel’s original foundation period.

The building’s history and religious art offer different points of interest: its possible completion the following year is part of the building’s early history, while the altarpiece and painting define its interior. This means the Ermita can be understood not only through its external appearance, but also through its architectural and artistic history.

Wine Growing and Experiences at Bodega Los Lirios

Wine growing has been part of the area’s history since the 17th century; Bodega Los Lirios is part of this historic winemaking tradition. Guided tours take visitors through the vineyards and winery and explain the artisanal winemaking process. The experience also includes a tasting of three wines paired with local specialities.

Advance booking is required for the guided experience; tastings are not available every day and are subject to availability. Another format is Art & Wine: on the first Sunday of each month, the programme includes a market featuring local brands, live music, DJs, food and the winery’s own wine. If you plan your trip around this event, check the date in advance. The tour and Art & Wine offer different experiences: one takes you through the vineyards and winery, while the other combines a market and entertainment with food and wine.

Historic Routes and Practical Information

The area around Marzagán also has a history of seasonal routes: in spring, shepherds from Jinámar and Marzagán used Los Corrales-Cuevas del Gato as their first overnight stop on the way to the summit.

For a visit with children, the age range for the playground at Plaza de Marzagán is clearly specified: it covers 238 square metres and is intended for children aged three to ten. In July 2026, vehicle access and the footpaths around Campo de fútbol de Marzagán were improved. This family-friendly stop and a local path improvement complement the area’s cultural and wine-related attractions.
