Arguineguín brings together different sides of a coastal holiday: calm bathing waters, beaches with different types of sand, maritime excursions and Canarian cuisine. So, when making your choice, the sea is not the only common theme to consider; also think about whether you want to swim, take a ferry, head out onto the water or combine your stay with hikes and festival culture. The specific differences are particularly evident among the beaches and in the activities around Puerto de Arguineguín.
Beaches with Different Characteristics
Anfi del Mar is located in La Playa de Arguineguín. Fine white sand and calm water suitable for relaxed swimming define this beach. Playa de Arguineguín also has calm bathing waters, but with dark sand and pebbles. You can take these different beach characteristics into account when planning a day at the beach. Las Marañuelas is a beach with black volcanic sand, where you can enjoy snorkeling.
Kayaks and pedal boats can be rented at Anfi del Mar beach; availability may vary by season. Playa de Arguineguín is easy to reach on foot, by car or by boat. Check the current access conditions before visiting.
Ferry Connections and Water Activities
Five boats are available for maritime excursions at Puerto de Arguineguín. As the fleet may change, check the options again before booking. Regular ferry services from Puerto de Arguineguín serve Anfi del Mar, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán. Check routes and operators before your trip.
SUP and surfing are also specifically associated with the area: Arguineguín is connected with the E-7 Pantai Sup Center Gran Canaria in this field. Check which options are currently available before booking.
Hiking and the Underwater Landscape
Numerous hiking routes start in Arguineguín, offering a chance to explore Gran Canaria’s natural landscapes. Check individual routes and their conditions separately. As a regional area, the Costa de Mogán stretches from Puerto Pesquero de Arguineguín to Tasartico and is located in a protected area.
Off Montaña Arena beach, on a sandy seabed at a depth of 23 metres, lies the artificial reef Arrecife artificial de Arguineguín. Created in 1991, it consists of several dozen concrete structures. The reef encourages various marine species to settle there. Depending on the season and conditions, you may be able to spot, among other species, Roncador damselfish, garden eels, angel sharks, moray eels and octopuses.
The Harbor, Cuisine and Fiestas del Carmen
Numerous restaurants serving traditional Canarian cuisine are located in the immediate vicinity of Puerto de Arguineguín. There, freshly caught fish may be served almost immediately. Restaurant availability and service practices may change; if a particular dining experience is important to you, check what is currently on offer.
The Fiestas del Carmen take place in Arguineguín in July. During the maritime procession, local residents carry the image of the Virgin Mary by boat between coastal towns in the municipality, followed by numerous decorated boats. The festival programme in Arguineguín and Playa de Mogán includes religious ceremonies, cultural activities, folk dancing, concerts, sporting competitions and traditional games. Dates and specific programme items may vary. If you are travelling for the festival, check the current dates.
