There are two routes with stated time estimates to choose from in Traslaviña, as well as buildings with varied architectural features. You can shape your stay around outdoor activities, historic architecture or both. Circular or linear routes, distance, elevation gain and landscape sections offer different points of reference for planning.
Routes with different time estimates
The ENK11 Artzentales: Traslaviña-Amalurra circular route is 3.92 kilometres long. It has a stated ascent of 94 metres and a descent of 94 metres, and takes approximately 59 minutes. It passes through part of the Traslaviña area and Laiseka. Taken together, the distance, elevation and approximate duration provide a concrete guide for planning your day.
The linear ENK12 Artzentzales: Traslaviña-Vía Verde-Geltokia route is 2.45 kilometres long and takes approximately 37 minutes. Compared with the circular route, both the stated distance and the approximate duration are shorter. This comparison helps you assess the routes according to your preferred time frame and route type, without inferring difficulty from the time estimates. The durations are approximate; check current trail conditions before setting out.
Greenway and railway station
The ENK12 runs partly along the Vía Verde Montes de Hierro and passes through alternating open and shaded sections. Its partial route along the greenway is important for orientation: the route uses the Vía Verde for part of its length, while its character is also shaped by the alternation of open and shaded stretches.
Kilometre 0 of the Vía Verde Montes de Hierro is at the Traslaviña stop (Artzentales), opposite the railway station. Traslaviña station is on the Bilbao–Santander line. Today it is a RENFE station; it was formerly a FEVE station. If you are considering taking the train, check current services and timetables.
Historic architecture in Traslaviña
The Torre de Traslaviña is an example of 16th-century Gothic-Renaissance military and residential architecture. Its historical period and its military and residential character are both part of the building’s story. The Church of Santa María in Traslaviña is Gothic in style and has a fortress-like appearance. The church stands out for its style and external appearance, while the Torre is notable for its date and the combination of military and residential architecture.
The Palacio de Orcasitas is near the Church of Santa María and is one of the old houses of interest that have been preserved. Together, the three buildings offer different points of interest for a culturally focused stay: a dated Torre, a Gothic church with a fortress-like appearance, and an old house near the church.
This makes it easy to prioritise your interests when planning: the routes provide concrete distance and time information, while the buildings offer a range of historical and architectural features. You can explore these interests separately or combine outdoor activities and architectural heritage during your stay.
