On the elevated edge of Villarquille stands Casa del Marco, with views stretching across forests and mountains. Two distinct themes define the area: the farmhouse museum explores rural everyday life and work, while the Ruta Minera de San Martín de Oscos turns attention to mining remains in the landscape. Together with the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and the Capilla de San Antonio, they give Villarquille a cultural and landscape-focused character for anyone looking for a holiday apartment here.

Rural life at Casa del Marco

Casa del Marco – Museo de la Casa Campesina is a farmhouse museum in Villarquille. Furniture, household objects and farming tools illustrate the way of life of rural society in the comarca up to the mid-20th century. The complex consists of five buildings, with residential and agricultural areas. The kitchen and living rooms sit alongside a granary, stables and a barn; a weaving workshop and carpentry workshop are also part of the complex. This combination shows that a farmhouse consisted of more than just living quarters: the same complex also contained areas for storage, animal husbandry and craftwork. The objects bring the daily life organised within these buildings into view, linking individual items with the history of rural society.

A notice dated 15 July 2026 lists Casa del Marco as temporarily closed. Check its current status before planning a visit.

The Ermita and Capilla in Villarquille

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is another cultural landmark in Villarquille. In the municipality of San Martín de Oscos, it receives the greatest public veneration. This distinction applies to the municipality as a whole, not just to the village. The Capilla de San Antonio offers a different perspective: an entry published on 27 September 2018 lists it as part of Asturian cultural heritage. Together, they represent two different aspects of religious heritage: the public veneration of the Ermita and the cultural classification of the Capilla.

The Ruta Minera and its mining remains

The Ruta Minera de San Martín de Oscos follows a series of paths and local roads through the Oscos landscape and past several mining remains. It reaches Villarquille, where it continues along an agricultural land consolidation track towards Teixeira. A land consolidation track begins at the foot of the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. PDF and KML files are available for the route, which can be followed by mountain bike, or as a BTT ride. The sequence of different path types and the mining remains give it a different focus from the museum, which presents rural life through buildings and objects. When looking for a holiday apartment in Villarquille, you can therefore consider whether you are more interested in rural cultural history or the Ruta Minera.
