In Teverga, you can combine two different areas of exploration: landscape and architectural history. The Río Valdecarzana flows through La Plaza; the Senda del Oso crosses the parish of La Plaza and leads through mountains and gorges. La Plaza and Entrago also feature historic buildings. This lets you choose the focus of your trip, from nature trails, cycling and climbing to cultural heritage.

Landscape, Cycling and Climbing

The Caranga–Entragu section of the Senda del Oso is a very easy, linear 10-kilometre route for gravel and mountain bikes. Its name refers to two endpoints rather than a loop. This information applies to this section; check the latest route details before setting out.

Another section, Caranga–Cueva Huerta, follows the former 19th-century mining railway line. Small tunnels and retaining walls characterize this route. Here, the former use as a mining railway and the structural traces of the line take centre stage. By comparison, Caranga–Entragu offers a cycling option with a specified distance and difficulty level. The two sections therefore have different focuses: cycling on a 10-kilometre route, or a route whose character is shaped by its industrial history.

The Peña Gradura climbing area is near Entrago, in the parish of La Plaza. Routes and climbing conditions may vary; check current conditions before climbing.

Architectural History in La Plaza and Entrago

The Colegiata de San Pedro in La Plaza was built between 1069 and 1076. The sacristy museum displays the mummified bodies of the Marquis of Valdecarzana and his son Pedro de Miranda. The building’s history and the museum offer two different points of interest for exploring the Colegiata. Its address is AS-265, 33111 La Plaza; check it again before your visit.

The Palacio de los Marqueses de Valdecarzana is also located in the parish of La Plaza. It is built around a central courtyard; the portico rests on pillars, and the complex also includes a wooden corridor. The courtyard layout and its architectural features give the palace a different architectural profile from the Palacio de los Condes de Agüera.

This second palace stands in the village of Entrago, in the parish of La Plaza. It dates from the 18th century and was built over an older fortress. This means that two building phases can be distinguished: the palace and the older fortress on which it was built. Together with the courtyard, portico and wooden corridor of the Palacio de los Marqueses de Valdecarzana, it offers a concrete basis for comparing different architectural and historical features.

Visitor Information

The Caranga–Entragu section of the Senda del Oso lists the Iglesia de San Pedro in La Plaza as a point of interest. The Área de La Colegiata is near the Colegiata de San Pedro and is particularly geared towards families with children. For specific visit planning, check the latest local conditions.
