Around Solana, distinctive architectural forms meet places with a layered history. In Argul, stone buildings stand on natural rock; nearby settlements, viewpoints and trails offer more ideas for planning your trip. The municipality of Pesoz also has a circular walking route, a wine museum and riverside destinations. You can choose which places to combine according to your interests in culture, scenery or outdoor activities.
Architecture and history near Solana
Argul is known for its stone buildings integrated into the rock: galleries and tunnels connect the houses. Casa de Vilar contains a tunnel about 20 metres long. The Chapel of San Antonio stands on the rock and has a Baroque altarpiece. Together, these details show how closely the villageâs architecture is tied to its rocky terrain.
A Paicega is another place to visit in the area around Solana. The abandoned workersâ settlement was built in the mid-20th century in connection with the construction of the Salime dam. The surviving barracks, converted into housing, include a church dedicated to the Virgen de La Luz and the remains of the cableway. The settlement offers views over the Navia River gorge. The A Paicega viewpoint looks out over part of the riverâs middle course and the surrounding mountain ranges.
Castro de San Isidro lies on the border between the municipalities of Pesoz and San MartĂn de Oscos. This circular hillfort is characterised by several ditches and upright defensive stones. It is freely accessible, and one way to reach it is on foot. As access includes an unimproved section of path, check the access details before your trip.

The PR-AS 117 starts in PezĂłs/Pesoz and follows the AgĂŒeira River through chestnut and pine forests. Routes and trail conditions can change, so it is a good idea to check the latest information before setting out. Another connection is the PR-AS 169, which links PezĂłs/Pesoz with A Paicega.

The subject therefore covers the process from growing grapes to processing them. Check the current opening status before visiting. The Iglesia de Santiago in Pesoz is three kilometres south of Solana. It has Romanesque origins and preserves several 18th-century Baroque works of art.
The Palacio de los Ron is a medieval tower beside the Chapel of San Andrés, within the enclosure of the former Palacio de los Ron. The building has four wings around a central courtyard and a main façade with two square corner towers. It is privately owned; only the exterior areas can be visited. Check the visiting conditions before you travel.
El Couso del Lobo is a distinctive traditional structure: the wolf trap has a large enclosure made of slate masonry. Its walls are about one metre thick and two to three metres high. From the AS-12 near Pelorde, the described route runs via Villabrille and then along a forest track. The A Paicega viewpoint is also reached by an unpaved road: from Sanzo, it is one kilometre long. For both access routes, allow for possible changes in trail conditions.
