Pedroveya combines hiking trails through the Desfiladero de Las Xanas with traces of an old village heritage. The Ruta de Las Xanas begins at the El MolĂn de Las Xanas recreation area; the Santa Rita Chapel stands in the village square, and Pedroveya preserves an old washhouse. The Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua lies around 500 metres outside Pedroveya. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around two specific interests: hiking or architectural and local history.

The Ruta de Las Xanas: Gorge and Circular Walk

From the El MolĂn de Las Xanas recreation area, the Ruta de Las Xanas leads into the gorge. The Desfiladero de Las Xanas is a designated natural monument and reaches depths of up to 100 metres in some places. As a circular hiking trail, the Ruta combines rugged landscapes with rural history, geology and woodland.

The first section reaches Pedroveya’s open pastureland and ends beside the Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua; from there, you can look back over the route you have travelled. From Pedroveya, the circular trail continues along a concrete path to Dosango, with views of the surrounding mountains.

The route’s origins are also closely linked to the area: the Ruta de Las Xanas was carved into the rock in the mid-20th century. It was intended to connect Pedroveya and Dosango with the Trubia Valley.

More Trails and Landscapes

The Senda de Valdolayés offers a different set of landscape features. It runs through meadows and alongside stone walls, as well as through areas where goats are often seen. If you are choosing between the two routes based on their landscapes, Las Xanas combines a gorge, woodland and geology, while the meadows, walls and goats define the described character of Valdolayés.

Pedroveya is also a starting or ending point of the CamĂn Real de Puerto Ventana. The GR 207, also known as the CamĂn Real del Puerto de Ventana or CamĂn Real de Las Reliquias, passes through Arrojo and Bermiego on its way to Pedroveya.

Chapels and Rural Heritage

The Santa Rita Chapel stands in the village square. Its floor plan is almost square, and the porch is enclosed on the right-hand side. The entrance is through a large round-arched doorway made of ashlar stone, with a turned wooden lattice gate. The floor plan, porch and entrance give the small building a distinct architectural character, evident in specific details rather than its size.

Pedroveya’s ethnographic heritage also includes an old washhouse. Alongside the chapel, it offers traces of traditional village life; the two sites reflect different aspects of the built heritage. The Iglesia de San Antonio de Padua stands on a hill around 500 metres outside Pedroveya, beside a century-old yew tree. Its setting brings together the church, a distinctive tree and the open landscape around the village.
