Tablado can be explored via several hiking trails with different starting and finishing points. There is also a circular route from Sisterna, the Trabáu lagoons, forest sections, and traces of the Cunqueiro tradition. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between each route’s starting point, character, and duration: not every hike begins in Tablado, and not all of them finish there.
Hiking trails: destinations, starting points, and difficulty
The ascent from Degaña to Tablado is rated easy, is 8.88 kilometers long, and takes about four hours; the elevation gain is 389 meters. A GR trail also leads from El Rebollar to Tablado. The Senda Moura (GR-203) runs through the Cunqueiros Valley in the Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña e Ibias Natural Park and leads from Bao via Sisterna to Tablado. It passes through rural landscapes and dense forests. Another route, Sisterna–Cerredo, passes through Tablado and Trabáu and continues to the vicinity of Tablado Pass. These trails differ in whether Tablado is their destination or an intermediate point, so the specific route is important for navigation.
The Trabáu lagoons and forest trails
The Lagunas de Trabáu–Sisterna circular route (PR-AS-8) starts in Sisterna. It is rated moderate to challenging, is 12.3 kilometers long, and takes about four hours and 30 minutes. This makes it easy to compare with the ascent from Degaña: the loop is longer, takes about half an hour more, and has a higher difficulty rating. The route reaches the Braña de Trabáu, which lies in a small hollow carved out by glaciers. The first of the two lagoons is deeper; the second is larger in area but shallower.
The Ruta de los Arándanos (PR-AS-267) starts in the village of Tablao and descends through chestnut trees to the Río la Collada. Oak and birch trees, as well as numerous blueberry bushes, also characterize the route. The trails described here therefore differ not only in their starting points and difficulty ratings, but also in the landscapes they cross.
Cunqueiro tradition and cultural heritage
A traditional Cunqueiro workshop is still active in Trabáu and can be visited. Check whether visits are available before your trip. The history of the Cunqueiros is also linked to the Senda Moura: it later served as a trade route for the Cunqueiros, who sold wooden products in Castile and Extremadura. The route thus connects today’s hiking trails with a historic economic use.
As of April 2026, the Iglesia de San Luis de Tablado was listed in the Inventory of the Cultural Heritage of Asturias under code IPCA-EI-22-01. Alongside the hiking trails and the history of the Cunqueiros, Tablado therefore also has a specific, named cultural heritage listing.
This lets you match your accommodation preferences with the actual starting and finishing points of your planned routes.
