The beach, coastal path, markets and historic watchtower give La Cala De Mijas its distinctive character. To plan your visit, it helps to first decide what to focus on: time by the water, walking or cycling, a market visit, or a cultural experience. The places and events below offer some specific ideas.
Think about which experiences you want to shape your stay, and tailor your search accordingly. Options range from beach visits to the Senda Litoral, markets and festivities.
Coastal Path and Beach
The Senda Litoral at La Cala is a path for walking and cycling. It passes Mediterranean dunes and coastal sand areas that are home to protected plant and animal species. If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you’ll find a route here that combines exercise with views of distinctive coastal habitats. Along the Mijas coast, there are coastal areas for recreation and water sports.
Playa La Cala is easy to reach on foot, by car or by bus. At Playa de La Cala–Torreón, supervised bathing is supported by a 156 m² shaded area staffed by three specialist lifeguards. Sun loungers, a pair of crutches, a hoist and three amphibious chairs are also available: two for adults and one for children. Beach services and seasonal availability may change. Check which facilities are available before your visit.
Markets and Local Events
A market selling organic produce is held on the Bulevar de La Cala De Mijas on the second and last Sunday of each month. Another street market takes place on Wednesday mornings at the Recinto Ferial, roughly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Market dates may change, so check the current schedule before your visit.
Festivities also offer a date to plan around. In La Cala, DĂa del Carmen is celebrated on July 16 with a procession; specific event schedules may change. La Cala’s local festivities take place in late July, although the timing may change. If a market or event will determine your plans, confirm the date before arranging your stay around it.
TorreĂłn: A Historic Landmark
The Torre de la BaterĂa de Cala del Moral was built in 1773. It is listed as a “Bien de InterĂ©s Cultural” (B.I.C.), a site of cultural interest. Mijas City Council restored the tower and adapted it for museum use. The Torre de la BaterĂa de Cala del Moral is a notable cultural landmark alongside the coastal activities; this does not imply that it is currently open to visitors.
The Torreón de La Cala Interpretation Centre was temporarily closed on August 26, 2026. This status may change, so check access before planning a visit. A July 2025 announcement listed concerts, a daytime fairground and children’s activities for the Feria de La Cala De Mijas. If you’d like to combine your visit with a festival, check the latest event information.
You can base your choices on what matters most to you: beach access and supervised bathing, time on the Senda Litoral, a market visit, or culture and events. Then find hotels to suit your plans.
