Torrequebrada appeals to visitors with a range of interests: Playa de Torrequebrada offers beach and swimming, while the Senda Litoral is a specifically measured coastal stretch. The watchtower and tunnel offer historical and cultural perspectives; golf is another highlight. When planning, it is worth considering not only the attractions but also practical details such as the foot access to the beach and the status of the path section.
Beach and swimming conditions
Playa de Torrequebrada is classified as an urban beach. Swimming conditions there are moderately wavy. Access on foot is considered difficult. These are two separate points to consider when deciding whether to include the beach in your day’s plans: the wave conditions affect swimming, while the stated access relates to the walk there.
Promenade and Senda Litoral
There is a viewpoint on the upper level of the Paseo MarĂtimo de Torrequebrada. Steps lead from the road to the promenade. The named section of the Senda Litoral, “Torrequebrada – ConexiĂłn Paseo MarĂtimo,” is listed as in use and is stated to be 1,513 metres long. The status and measured distance may change; if you plan to use this section, check both in advance. This gives you a specific distance while also taking into account that the status or measurement may change.
Art in the tunnel
The tunnel next to the Torrequebrada Casino was transformed into an open-air art gallery in September 2025 during a stop on the Liga Nacional de Grafiti. A permanent exhibition of ten works of art was announced at the time. If you specifically want to see the works, check before your visit whether they are still on display. The art adds a contemporary example to Torrequebrada’s cultural attractions, one whose creation can be traced to a specific event in September 2025.
The Torre VigĂa and its history
The Torre VigĂa de Torrequebrada is cylindrical and seven metres high. It is believed to have been built by Muslims on a steep rise at Punta Negra. Its strategic location provided a view of the coast of the Alboran Sea. Its early construction remains a historical supposition; its later building history is also important for understanding the tower.
The Torre Quebrada formed part of the Islamic medieval network of watchtowers along this coast. It was rebuilt in its present shape at the end of the 16th century. The presumed original construction and this rebuilding are separate historical phases. Fires and smoke could be used to communicate with other towers and nearby settlements. The tower can therefore be considered both as a structure in its own right and as part of a wider coastal surveillance system.
Golf Torrequebrada
Golf Torrequebrada has 18 holes, was established in 1976 and was designed by José Gancedo. Palm trees, pines and olive trees line the fairways, which offer views of the Mediterranean and the mountains. Together, these details make it a distinct focus for golf enthusiasts: the course has a clearly stated size, an attributed design and a landscape that includes both trees and views of the sea and mountains. Golf can thus be considered as an independent interest when choosing Torrequebrada, alongside the beach, coastal path and cultural history.
