La Carrasca offers three different starting points for planning a trip: the August festivals, a hiking route ending at the Las Piedras Cobo archaeological site, and a long road cycling route between Martos and Las Casillas. When choosing, consider whether you want to plan your stay around a festival date, a specific hiking destination or a longer bike ride.
Festivals with their own character
The fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Rosario take place in August. Check the dates for the edition you plan to attend. The 2026 programme included a floral offering, a children’s fancy-dress competition and a public dance. It also featured the XXV Gastronomy Competition and a paella serving. These individual events relate to that edition and are not a promise for future years.
The Ermita Ntra. Sra. del Rosario is associated with the La Carrasca-Martos settlement. This provides another specific link to the Rosario name in the village, alongside the festival programme.
The traditional Fiestas de la Santa Cruz in La Carrasca were also celebrated over three days in 2026. The programme included music, leisure activities, food and religious events. These included a floral offering, children’s competitions, public dances, a mass and a procession in honour of the Santa Cruz. There was also a traditional communal meal featuring cocido.
The programmes differ in their specific highlights: the Rosario festival included the gastronomy competition and paella, while the Fiestas de la Santa Cruz featured a mass, procession and cocido, among other events. If you are planning a trip, check the announcement for the relevant edition rather than assuming that events from one year will take place every year.
Hiking and road cycling
The Piedras Cobo–Minas–Alamillo route starts in La Carrasca and climbs along agricultural tracks to the Las Piedras Cobo archaeological site. It is 11.6 km long. Both the destination and the route’s distance are clearly specified; the ascent and the agricultural tracks are also factors to consider when planning this hike.
The long road cycling route through the Sierra Sur de JaĂ©n offers a different perspective. It runs from Martos via La Carrasca to Las Casillas. In Las Casillas, you can see the VĂboras reservoir and Castillo del VĂboras. Unlike the hiking route, La Carrasca is part of a longer connection here: the hiking trail starts in the village and leads to an archaeological site, while the cycling route continues beyond the village between Martos and Las Casillas.
Plan accommodation around the reason for your trip
When looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether your travel dates are tied to a festival or whether a route is the main focus. The August date matters for the fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Rosario; for a hike or a trip involving the road cycling route, the respective routes provide the reason for your visit.
