Pulpí brings together an exceptional geological natural heritage, coastal landscapes and historic cultural sites. Geode and Minerals
The Geoda de Pulpí is about eight metres long and two metres high. It is considered the world’s largest geode open to visitors. Discovered in 1999, it is covered in large gypsum crystals. Thanks to its transparency and state of preservation, it is considered a natural heritage site unique in the world. These dimensions give you an idea of the scale of this remarkable natural formation, while the crystals and their characteristics draw attention to its geological significance.
Another glimpse into the world of minerals awaits at the permanent Sala de Luminiscencia exhibition. It displays 1,000 specimens of fluorescent minerals and can be visited as part of a guided tour. Coast and Protected Nature
The Isla de Terreros e Isla Negra natural monument comprises two small volcanic islands close to the Almería coast, off San Juan de los Terreros. Isla de Terreros is home to one of the province’s most important seabird breeding grounds. Alongside the geode, the coastal environment is another key attraction: this is about islands and habitats, not another exhibition.
On land, too, the protected landscape encompasses a range of different environments. The ZEC Sierras de Almagrera, de los Pinos y el Aguilón extends partly across Pulpí and includes steep coastal cliffs, small beaches and coves. It also serves as a refuge for one of the last well-preserved populations of the Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise on the Iberian Peninsula. These protected areas give the landscape a significance of its own, beyond the views of the coast.
Coastal Trails
The Pulpí–San Juan de los Terreros hiking trail starts in Pulpí and runs along the Mediterranean coast. Its defining features include beaches, steep cliffs and seascapes. Another option is the Mirador del Apartadero–Playa Cocedores route, which passes through the protected marine environment of Fondos Marinos del Levante Almeriense, with its islets and underwater biodiversity.

Architectural History and Rural Heritage
The Iglesia de San Miguel was built in 1801 during the reign of Charles IV and is listed in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Historical Heritage. Its rectangular floor plan and single-nave interior give you a tangible sense of its architecture. Alongside the natural attractions, the church offers a different way to discover Pulpí, with a focus on architecture and history.
The Centro del Hábitat Rural de Pulpí explores local identity and collective memory. Objects, bilingual information panels in Spanish and English, and audiovisual media present tangible and intangible heritage associated with traditional agriculture and livestock farming. Groups can visit the centre by appointment; arrange your visit before travelling.
