Rows of tea bushes stretching across a hillside like a deep-green carpet define the landscape of Boseong-Gun. In the adjoining town of Boseong-eup, you’ll also find exhibitions on tea culture, historic sites and a science museum. This gives you several interests to choose from as you plan your trip: scenery and tea, cultural history or science.

Tea Landscapes and Views

At Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation, rows of tea bushes stretch across the hillside. Tall cedars line the entrance. A visit takes you along a cedar forest trail, through a bamboo grove and to a viewpoint overlooking the green tea fields. This lets you take in the plantation from different perspectives: the tea bushes shape the hillside, while the trees and viewpoints add further elements to the landscape.

At the summit of Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation, there is a viewpoint from which the sea is visible on clear days. This view depends on the weather. If you’re especially interested in the landscape, you’ll find more than rows of tea bushes here: the forest trail, bamboo grove and views across the fields each offer a different accent.

Tea and Local Culture

Each of the three floors of the Tea Museum of Korea is devoted to a different aspect of tea. On the third floor, the tea lifestyle space offers educational and hands-on experiences. There, you can learn about tea cultures in Korea, China, Japan and Europe. The museum explores the subject not only through Boseong tea, but also through cultural comparisons.

The Green Market at Botjae offers a different perspective: Boseong tea and agricultural specialties from Boseong are sold there. For planning purposes, you can think of the museum and market as two different ways to explore tea—culture and how it is shared at the museum, and local products at the market.

History in Exhibitions and Architecture

Boseong Hyanggyo in Boseong-ri, Boseong-eup, was founded by Kim Yu-yang in 1397. Its layout is clearly defined: the teaching hall, Myeongnyundang, is at the front, with the ceremonial hall, Daeseongjeon, behind it. This arrangement sets the teaching and ceremonial spaces in a clear relationship and makes the architecture an attraction in its own right.

Bangjingwan exhibits the Nanjung Ilgi and other records related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin and Boseong. A mural at the entrance depicts Yi Sun-sin’s ten days of activity in Boseong. The experiences on offer also include trying on Joseon naval clothing, playing tuho, archery and traditional games. Check before your trip which activities are currently available.

The Boseong History and Culture Hall at Botjae presents Boseong’s history and culture from the Three Kingdoms period to the present day. Botjae also has an interactive exhibition space devoted to Boseong’s ecology. Botjae Hall offers hands-on and educational programs. Find out before your trip which activities are currently available.

Science and Getting There

The Boseong Astronomy Science Museum in Boseong-eup teaches visitors about the universe and offers hands-on experiences. The circular dome theater screens 4D films about space on a ten-meter-wide screen. Advance reservations by phone are required for stargazing. Confirm the current arrangements before your visit.

The railway is another practical point to consider when planning: Boseong Station in Boseong-eup is on the Gyeongjeon Line and is served by Mugunghwa trains. Check the current timetable before traveling. If you’re looking for hotels in Boseong-Gun, you can first plan your stay around your preferred focus—tea landscapes, cultural history or science.
