There are different ways to experience Namwon during your stay: take a walking trail along a historic fortress wall, explore space and astronomy, or discover Chunhyang culture.

Gyoryongsan: Fortress and Walking Trail

At 518 meters high, Gyoryongsan is the centerpiece of Gyoryongsan National Tourist Site. Gyoryongsanseong Fortress sits on its ridge, and its first fortifications were built during the Baekje period; Seongguksa Temple is located within the site. The first fortifications were built during the Baekje period, while Seongguksa was founded in 685, the fifth year of the reign of King Sinmun of the Silla period. A walking trail at Gyoryongsan National Tourist Site follows the fortress wall for around three kilometers.

Space, Flight, and AirRail

The Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory focuses on the history of space exploration, flight experiences, and astronomy. It has an exhibition hall on the history of space exploration, a flight experience hall, and a planetarium with a 10-meter dome, where images of the night sky and the entire sky are shown. The observatory offers group tours and experience programs, including 4D film experiences about the sun and celestial bodies, virtual flight experiences, and astronomy lectures. Up to 120 people can take part in each event. Specific event dates may change, so check them before planning a visit.

The Namwon AirRail is a 2.44-kilometer monorail serving three stations: Chunhyang Theme Park in Namwon Tourist Resort, Hampawoo Korean Music Experience Center, and Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory. A journey covering all three stations takes about 45 minutes. As they travel along the elevated track, passengers can enjoy views of the Namwon landscape; the railway reaches a maximum height of 11.2 meters. Check the timetable in advance when planning your trip.

These attractions offer two different ways to spend your time: a walking trail along the fortress wall and a monorail ride serving three stations.

Chunhyang Culture and Local Orientation

Chunhyang Theme Park recreates the Chunhyang story in areas dedicated to encounters, alliances, film sets, and festivals. The Chunhyangjae Festival takes place each spring in Gwanghalluwon Garden and celebrates the enduring love of the famous couple. A rectangular pond lies in front of the garden. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific dates before booking accommodation.

Namwon Tourism Complex is located in Eohyeon-dong and includes, among other sites, Chunhyang Theme Park, Chunhyang Culture and Arts Center, National Center for Korean Folk Music, and Namwon Local History Museum. The museum preserves around 2,500 artifacts. Compared with the thematic presentation at Chunhyang Theme Park, the museum’s collection offers a different focus for cultural planning.
