Kumen as a Hill Settlement
Kumen is a widely scattered hill settlement in the Lovrenško Pohorje. The farmsteads are mostly isolated; those at higher elevations stretch towards Lamprehtov vrh (1,230 m). The slopes of the Pohorje near Kumen are covered by continuous, predominantly coniferous forests. Extensive peat bogs lie south of Klopni vrh. The scattered farmstead pattern and the forest and moorland landscape give the area a variety of landscape features. Klopni vrh is a named destination for a specific hike.
Hiking Trail to Klopni vrh
The hiking trail to Klopni vrh is considered easy. After crossing the Radoljna, it follows the slope named after Kumen. The route then crosses Turn at 1,261 metres and reaches KoÄŤa na Klopnem vrhu. Its course can thus be followed through several named points: the Radoljna, the Kumen slope and Turn, before the route reaches the mountain hut. The slope called Kumen and the destination Klopni vrh refer to different places. On the return journey, you can visit a partisan memorial site. To compare the two elevations: Turn reaches 1,261 metres, making it 31 metres higher than Lamprehtov vrh, at 1,230 metres. The elevations mark two different roles in the terrain: Lamprehtov vrh indicates the direction of the higher-elevation farmsteads, while Turn is part of the hiking route.
Time and Route Options
The ascent is listed as taking 2 hours 30 minutes, and the descent 2 hours. The ascent therefore takes half an hour longer; both directions together amount to 4 hours 30 minutes of walking time. The easy rating and the time estimates answer different questions: “easy” describes the trail’s difficulty, while the times give a clear idea of how long the ascent and descent take. When planning your day, you can consider walking time separately from breaks or a visit to the memorial site.
Route Extensions
From Klopni vrh, the route continues towards Pesek and then on to Rogla or the Lovrenška jezera. This makes the peak part of a larger regional hiking route. When choosing a route, it is worth distinguishing between the ascent and descent to Klopni vrh and the continuation beyond it: the time estimates cover the ascent and descent, while Pesek, Rogla and the Lovrenška jezera indicate directions for continuing the route.
Historical and Cultural Connections
Kumen is first mentioned between 1193 and 1220. A municipal project note dated 12 August 2021 records that a project for the first Lovrenška cookbook was proposed and voted on in Kumen.
