Vieska lies in the Danubian Lowland, in the central part of Žitný ostrov. Local history, links to the Malý Dunaj and protected areas, as well as cycling routes give your stay a variety of points of interest. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can decide whether you are more interested in historical heritage in the village, the landscape or cycling routes.
Landscape and Protected Areas
The cadastral area of Blatná lúka in Vieska reaches the Malý Dunaj and also includes the Klátovské rameno, or its former river course; there is no continuous body of water there. The Malý Dunaj, with its surrounding forests and the floodplain woodland areas that are partly enclosed within its meanders, is a significant landscape feature. The Klátovské rameno, by contrast, is a former river course without a continuous body of water.
The protection requirements of the Klátovské rameno National Nature Reserve must be observed in the planning area of Vieska. The European protected area SKUEV0822 Malý Dunaj directly borders the planning area. These are two distinct spatial relationships: protection requirements within the planning area on the one hand, and a directly adjoining European protected area on the other.
Local History and Heritage
Vieska was first mentioned in 1322 under the name Kysfeuldi. Until the mid-19th century, it was a village belonging to the nobility. Among the more prominent families who owned property in Vieska were the Nagyovci. The rural historic character and historic layout of the oldest built-up areas along Hlavná and Veľká streets are to be preserved. A Pietà sculpture ensemble at the junction of Športová, Agátová and Ružová streets, near the sports ground, is dated 1898.
The wayside chapel at 60 Hlavná Street contains a statue of the Ružencová Panna Mária, the Madonna of the Rosary. The original chapel dates from 1892 and was reconstructed in 1995. The main cross in the cemetery dates from 1863 and was restored in 1991. The memorial erected in 1992 to soldiers who fell in the Second World War bears the names of 18 fallen residents of Vieska. The bell tower in the cemetery dates from 1993 and has one bell; another bell tower with one bell stands on Hlavná Street. The sequence includes heritage from the 19th century, as well as restorations, a reconstruction and additions from the 1990s.
Cycling and Bodies of Water
The signposted GalantskĂ˝ cyklookruh follows an existing field track through the area of Vieska. Cycling route 5232 runs for 2.4 kilometres through Vieska. These details answer different questions for orientation: the type of track is specified for the GalantskĂ˝ cyklookruh, while the length of the route through the village is given for cycling route 5232.
The Ĺ trkovisko Vieska fishing water covers 1.5 hectares and has a stable water level. It adds a named body of water with a specific area figure to the river and floodplain woodland connections.
