Brestovec brings together nature trails and landscapes, preserved folk buildings and the history of the Štefánik Tunnel. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between an educational trail with information panels and a blue cycling route through the Kopanice: each has a different focus and helps you choose activities more specifically.

Educational Trail or Cycling Route?

The Brestovec–Stará Myjava–Topolecká educational trail is 18.298 kilometres long and has nine information panels. They cover the natural wealth and the fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills and the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Biele Karpaty). The Brestovec–Stará Myjava blue cycling route is about 15 kilometres long; it runs through the Kopanice and offers views of the surrounding countryside. By comparison, the cycling route is shorter, while the educational trail covers a precisely specified longer distance and has nine themed information panels. Your choice therefore depends on both the type of activity and its particular focus: nature information along the educational trail or landscape views on the cycling route.

The Kopanice landscape around Brestovec consists of scattered settlements, meadows and forests, and has retained its traditional character. The northern part of the cadastral area of Brestovec is covered by White Carpathian forests. These forests provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species and are used for tourism and recreation. Southeast of Brestovec lies the reservoir on the Myjava, surrounded by extensive areas of preserved woodland; it forms part of the Rieka Myjava Natural Monument. The surrounding area thus brings together different landscape features: the Kopanice with its settlements, meadows and forests, the woodland to the north and the reservoir to the southeast.

Folk Architecture and Tunnel History

Several original folk residential and farm buildings dating from the 19th century have been preserved in Brestovec. Another side of the local heritage is represented by the Tunel generála Štefánika, a technical monument from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic. The M. R. Štefánik Tunnel in the cadastral area of Brestovec is 2,987 metres long. A memorial plaque at its entrance commemorates the people who died during the tunnel’s construction. Together, the buildings and the tunnel monument highlight different aspects of the area’s heritage: folk residential and farm architecture on the one hand, and technical infrastructure and remembrance on the other.

Spring Tradition and Event Dates

The Stavanie mája tradition takes place in Brestovec in spring. An event was announced for 30 April 2026. If you plan to travel for this custom in the future, check the dates for the relevant year. Futbalové podujatie na Brestovci was also scheduled in July in each of 2023, 2024 and 2025. If the event matters to your travel plans, arrange a later visit around the date for the relevant year.

Getting There and Other Activities

Brestovec has a railway station on the Nové Mesto nad Váhom–Veľká nad Veličkou line. If rail travel is relevant to your journey, check current train services separately. For activity away from the routes, Brestovec also has a multi-purpose sports field, which you can reserve in advance for individual and team sports.
