Rišňovce lies in the southwestern part of the Nitra Loess Hills. Its history stretches from archaeological evidence of settlement in the Neolithic and Hallstatt periods to the 18th-century Church of the Holy Trinity and Kutuzov’s stay at the Renaissance manor house. The yellow cycling route 8110 between Nitra and Rišňovce offers another perspective.

Church of the Holy Trinity and Renaissance Manor House

The Church of the Holy Trinity was built between 1766 and 1775. This late Baroque, single-nave building has a square presbytery and an attached sacristy; inside, Baroque and Rococo elements come together. The Louisian main altar dates from the second half of the 18th century. A small bell dedicated to Saints Cyril and Methodius dates to 1747 and was found by chance in the attic of the parish house. The tower is about 27 metres high, including the cross at its top. The choir loft cannot be reached from inside the church; it is accessed from outside, near the tower, via steep steps.

The earliest phase of construction of the manor house probably dates back to the mid-16th century. At that time, it consisted of a single-storey, three-room, single-wing structure with a cellar. Marshal Kutuzov stayed overnight at the Renaissance manor house from 18 to 19 December 1805, after the Battle of Slavkov on 2 December 1805. The manor house has been a national cultural monument since 2 July 1993.

Museum Visits by Telephone Appointment

The M. I. Kutuzov Museum features a permanent exhibition of copies of historical documents relating to the history of Rišňovce and Kutuzov’s stay in the village. The lower rooms also house a permanent exhibition of folk culture artefacts. Visits are possible only by telephone appointment, so call in advance. This makes planning a museum visit different from viewing the buildings: an appointment is explicitly required for the museum.

Archaeology and Places of Remembrance

Archaeological sites in the municipality provide evidence of settlement in the Neolithic and Hallstatt periods. The finds also include ceramic fragments from Roman times. They offer a broader perspective beyond the history of the church and manor house.

South of the Church of the Holy Trinity, a Cyril and Methodius double cross stands in a well-kept park. The monument to the fallen was erected in 1935 by firefighters from the Czechoslovak Volunteer Fire Brigade, with support from local residents. It honours the people of Rišňovce who fell in the First World War (1914–1918).

The Stations of the Cross, created in 2024, comprise fourteen stations made of acacia wood. They are considered a place for personal prayer, relaxation and renewal. For passers-by on their way to the cemetery in Horné Rišňovce, the stations also serve as a memorial.

Cycling from Nitra to Rišňovce

Yellow cycling route 8110 connects Nitra with Rišňovce and runs along asphalt roads, paved tracks and field paths. It is considered an easy MTB route suitable for recreational cycling and is a good choice for family rides. This offers a distinctly different activity alongside the historical attractions: the route is defined by cycling and varied surfaces, while the church, manor house and museum are the cultural and historical highlights.
