Thermal waters, a pond with seasonal activities and traces of local history give Rajecke Teplice a varied character. The town lies in the southern part of the Rajecká Basin, in the wooded valley of the Rajčianka River and near the Little Fatra and Strážov Mountains. When planning a stay around your interests, you can choose from spa facilities, cycling and hiking destinations, and culture without having to combine these themes into a single outing.
Thermal Waters and Spa Facilities
The thermal water at the Rajecké Teplice baths has a temperature of 34 to 38 °C. It is drawn from underground springs at a depth of approximately 30 m. The Aphrodite balneological centre offers several therapeutic spa treatments. This puts both the properties of the thermal water and specific treatment options at the heart of the spa experience.
Laura thermal pool is about a 5- to 10-minute walk from the town centre.
Pond, Wildlife and Seasonal Activities
Labutie jazierko is a small artificial pond created by damming or diverting the Kuneradský potok stream. Swans and ducks can be seen there almost constantly. Boats can be rented from spring through autumn; check current operating conditions before planning to rent a boat. In winter, the pond is used for ice skating. The conditions at the site at the time determine whether this is possible.
At the pond, nature observation and seasonal activities can be considered separately: the waterfowl are part of the site's character, while boating and ice skating are tied to different seasons. When planning, you can therefore weigh up a visit in the warmer months against winter use, without assuming that a particular activity is available at every time of year.
Cycling and Trails in the Surrounding Area
There are several loop routes for cycling. Rajeckou dolinou na dvoch kolesách (RDn2K) is a mostly paved loop route for cyclists and families with children. The Rajecké Teplice pump track is for children and adults, as well as beginners and experienced riders. RDn2K is a loop route; the pump track is a different kind of cycling.
The Slnečné skaly nature trail runs from Rajecké Teplice to Porúbka through the Rajecká Valley. Along the way, it passes the natural formation Poluvsianska skalná ihla and continues to the Slnečné skaly nature reserve. A 5.6 km nature trail starts at a car park in Rajecké Teplice, right next to the Laura outdoor swimming pool.
Culture and Local History
The Múzeum dopravy is housed in Rajecké Teplice railway station. Its exhibition covers the development of transport from the earliest times to the present day. The railway section includes an H0-scale model railway, historic railway offices and a historic railway maintenance handcar. The local Žilina–Rajec railway line was built in 1898 and 1899; Rajecké Teplice station was established in 1899 in the immediate vicinity of the spa area.
The religious buildings also reflect different historical influences. The Kostol Božského Srdca Ježišovho was built in 2000 and 2001 and consecrated on 24 November 2001 by Ján Ch. Cardinal Korec, Bishop of Nitra. The Kostolík Nanebovzatia Panny Márie was built in 1909 in a Neo-Gothic style influenced by Alpine architecture. Inside is a wooden carved Stations of the Cross by Jozef Pekara from Rajecké Teplice. Another architecturally distinctive building is the Flámm brewery, whose construction was completed in 1910.
