In Rimavské Janovce, churches, manor houses and a conservation area shape the historic centre. Its architecture ranges from a church dating to around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries to a coffered ceiling from 1792. There is also a tourist route and connections to Rimavská Sobota. When planning your trip, it is also important to note the current status of a described cycle route.

Historic Centre and Conservation Area

The historic centre was declared a conservation area in 1994. Its linear street layout forms a small central square, where the Roman Catholic and Reformed churches are located. Some houses in the conservation area have preserved original stucco decorations from around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In this way, the street layout and square are complemented by surviving details on individual houses.

Churches Between Romanesque and Gothic

The Church of St John the Baptist is a single-nave building dating to around the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, with a semicircular apse. It was originally a Romanesque Benedictine monastery church. The Reformed church dates from the early 14th century and is originally Gothic. Its flat wooden coffered ceiling dates from 1792. The two churches therefore offer a comparison of different periods of construction and furnishing.

A condition report from 2025 described the Reformed church as being in good condition; it continues to serve its religious purpose. Before visiting, check its current condition and whether access is possible.

Comparing Two Manor Houses

Törökovská kúria dates from 1800 and is a single-storey late Baroque building with a rectangular floor plan, a mansard roof and side pavilions. The kúria at house number 47 differs in its late Neoclassical style: it is single-storey and has two wings, dates from the second half of the 19th century, and also has a rectangular floor plan, but with a hipped roof. The two buildings share a rectangular floor plan; their construction dates, styles and roof forms distinguish them from one another.

Gotická cesta and Other Local Points of Interest

Rimavské Janovce is part of the Gotická cesta tourist route. The Kurinec Reservoir is a tourist attraction and is connected to the village by a cycle path. A geothermal spring was discovered in 2000 in the cadastral area of Rimavské Janovce and is currently used in the Kurinec–Zelená voda recreation area. The spring and its use can therefore be pinpointed to two different locations: it was discovered in the cadastral area and is used in the named recreation area.

Getting There and the Planned Cycle Route

Rimavské Janovce is connected to Rimavská Sobota by road II/531 and a railway line for passenger and freight trains. You can consider both modes of transport for your journey; please check specific departures for your travel date.

A municipal project description from 2018 also proposed the 1,519.69-metre Močiar–Rimavské Janovce cycle route. It was to begin at a bridge in the settlement of Močiar, follow an existing unpaved farm track and the embankment along the Rimava, and connect to the road at a railway crossing in Rimavské Janovce. The planned route was to be separated from the main road so that passenger cars and lorries would not endanger cyclists. The plan dates from 2018; check the current route before setting out on a cycling trip.
