The protected Mičinské travertíny and the painter Milan Laluha’s longstanding connection with Dolná Mičiná offer two different ways to discover the village. For your stay, you can focus on the geological formations and the educational trail, or on art and local history. The cultural heritage includes, alongside Laluha’s story, a Renaissance manor house, a bell tower and a memorial plaque to those who fell in both world wars.

Mineral Springs and Travertine Hills

The protected Mičinské travertíny natural formation lies between Dolná Mičiná and Čerín and covers 38,320 square metres. The travertine formations are part of a relatively natural system of mineral springs, whose outflow has formed travertine hills. The springs and hills are therefore part of a connected geological feature.

The Mičinské travertíny educational trail is about 500 metres long, takes approximately 30 minutes and is considered easy. An information board and several unmarked stops at individual travertine formations give the route its educational character. The travertines make a suitable destination for outings and learning thanks to their easy accessibility and unique natural value. The length of about 500 metres and the approximate half-hour duration describe the time involved, while the easy rating indicates the level of difficulty.

Art and Local History

Milan Laluha connected almost his entire artistic career with Dolná Mičiná. He began creating here and returned again and again throughout his life. His paintings were often inspired by the village surroundings of Dolná Mičiná. Larger groups and school groups can arrange a visit to the Milan Laluha Mini Gallery with the municipality, including outside regular opening days. Contact the municipality to arrange a date.

The Renaissance manor house Kaštieľ Dolná Mičiná dates from the second half of the 16th century and was built on older foundations. It is a three-storey block building with four round corner towers. Today, the manor house is abandoned and falling into disrepair. Check access before approaching the building.

Dolná Mičiná’s cultural and historical monuments also include a bell tower and a memorial plaque to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars. Another cultural trail leads to folklore: Dolná Mičiná is mentioned in a 1983 collection of authentic folklore from villages in the Podpoľanie region; songs from the village were later featured in an STVR programme.

The planning considerations differ depending on what you choose: for the educational trail, its length, approximate duration and difficulty level are useful; larger groups and schools can arrange a gallery visit outside regular opening days, while access should be checked before approaching the abandoned manor house. This brings together a nature walk with a clearly defined time frame and cultural sites with different visiting conditions.
