The karst lake Rakina bara and the Sanja Gallery appeal to different travel interests: nature and culture. Walks in the Lipovačke forests add to the nature experiences. To plan your trip, it is worth first considering whether landscapes and outdoor activities or art and events will shape your stay more.
Karst Lake, Forest and Water
Rakina bara is located in Sremčica, in the municipality of Čukarica. The naturally formed karst lake covers two hectares. It is one of several karst lakes in Serbia, is close to Belgrade and is considered a rare natural phenomenon. Its geological classification gives the nature theme a clear focus.
In pre-war Belgrade, Rakina bara was considered a popular excursion destination. At the end of 2019, local residents organized the cleanup of the lake and the restoration of its plant and animal life; RTS reported on this in 2022. This brings together its historic role as an excursion destination and later efforts to protect nature.
A 2021 report described a 510-meter-long promenade that ran around Rakina bara. Before visiting, check whether it is currently accessible. The lake covers exactly two hectares; the promenade described in 2021 ran for 510 meters around the lake.
The Lipovačke forests are used for walks, relaxation and family outings. While activities such as walking take center stage here, Rakina bara is distinguished by its geological classification as a karst lake. If you would like to include outdoor activities in your travel plans, you can take this difference into account when choosing your focus.
Turski točak Cave is located in a wooded, unspoiled area on a slope below a settlement. A stream rises from the cave and flows into the Reka River. This nature experience combines a cave and a stream source; Rakina bara, by contrast, is classified as a karst lake.
Culture and Events at the Sanja Gallery
The Sanja Gallery is a branch location of the cultural institution “Galerija '73” and is housed in the Pančević family legacy. Its institutional affiliation and connection to the legacy give the cultural theme its own distinct setting.
The “Kulturno leto” event at the Sanja Gallery brought together visual arts, literature and music. According to the municipal announcement of July 10, 2026, free programs for all generations were planned for the following months. Alongside the exhibition and gallery focus, the program therefore also features several art forms.
If you are looking for accommodation for a stay in Sremčica, you can first plan your trip around your preferred focus: nature with the karst lake and forest walks, or culture with the gallery and event program. Check the specific dates for “Kulturno leto” before your trip.
