In Quassim, date culture, Najd architecture and traces of long-standing settlement offer different ways to experience the region. The annual Buraydah Date Festival lasts 30 days and attracts farmers and tourists from nearby regions and countries every year. In Unaizah, the Al-Hanaini Festival puts a different date specialty in the spotlight: Al-Hanini, an innovative, popular winter snack made with dates. The festival also supports productive families and entrepreneurs. Alongside a local dish, it therefore highlights the people and economic activities that the festival promotes.
Culture Between Market and Architecture
The Al-Musawkaf Traditional Market in Unaizah hosts cultural performances and festivals. The Heritage Village of al-Ghada, west of Unaizah, also serves as a venue for such events. In Buraydah, the King Khalid Cultural Center opened in 1986; it is a venue for events and conferences. The market, heritage village and cultural center thus represent different settings for cultural life in Quassim.
The Buraydah Water Tower offers a special opportunity for visitors: it opens its doors during national celebrations and Saudi initiatives. So if you are planning a visit, check whether one of these occasions is scheduled. The Al-Bassam Heritage House is an example of traditional Najd architecture. It was built in 1955 using traditional lighting and ventilation techniques from the Najd region, covers 3,500 mÂČ and is considered an attraction for locals in Al-Qassim. Its design draws attention to both light and airflow, as well as to the size of the house.
Traces of Different Eras
Al-Shanana Tower is a historic watchtower in the southwestern part of Ar-Rass in Al-Qassim and is at least 200 years old. The Al-Bassam Heritage House offers a different point of reference in time: it was built in 1955. Meanwhile, the rock art of al-Ghadah documents the social life of an ancient era in Al-Qassim. Uyun al-Jiwa adds to this historical picture as an ancient oasis about 50 kilometers northwest of Buraydah, inhabited by people since at least prehistoric times.
Green Spaces and Nature Conservation
King Khalid Park in Buraydah is a green space for family outings and leisurely walks. Palm Avenue in Unaizah also offers such a green space. In June 2026, the Qassim Municipality reported a total of 41 designated walking routes, with a combined length of more than 44,000 meters.
Nature conservation is another facet of the region. A report dated December 29, 2025, describes programs at Qassim National Park in Buraydah, led by the National Center for Wildlife. They support the release and reintroduction of the Arabian oryx, help protect endangered wildlife and promote biodiversity in natural habitats. The birth of an Arabian oryx was also recorded in the park for three years in a row.
Planning Your Trip
If you include Unaizah in your travel plans, getting there also offers a useful point of reference: Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Buraydah is the closest airport to Unaizah, 43 kilometers away. The different places and themes give you several starting points for choosing accommodation: date festivals, cultural events, architecture, the history of oases and settlement, or green spaces. Which of these takes center stage depends on what you would like to discover in Quassim.
