Tulnici Commune can be explored through a range of visitor interests: protected areas with specific access rules, a waterfall, nature trails, as well as a monastery and churches. The tourist region along the Putna River is known as “Zona Turistica Tulnici-Lepșa-Gresu”. When planning your visit, it is worth treating the natural attractions as distinct destinations rather than interchangeable stops: admission, trail markings and seasonal conditions vary.

Nature Reserves and Trails

Cascada Putnei is a nationally significant protected area within the administrative territory of Tulnici Commune, near the village of Lepșa. The waterfall is 76 metres long; the drop is 14 metres, and the pool is about 12 metres deep. Cascada Putnei was declared a natural monument in 1973. You can reach it via the DN 2D national road and a roadside sign pointing towards Târgu Secuiesc. Since road signs can change, it is a good idea to check the access route before setting off. An admission ticket is required to visit the Cascada Putnei and Tișița integral protection zones; check the fees and procedures before your trip.

Cheile Tișiței is a 2,726-hectare nature reserve established in 1973. The Tișița integral protection zone may only be visited on marked hiking trails. In addition, the trail through Cheile Tișiței is closed in winter because of avalanche risk. Check current trail conditions before setting off, especially if you are planning a visit during the cold season. Its area and year of establishment give the reserve a different scale from individual natural monuments; for practical planning, however, the access rules and seasonal closure are especially important.

Groapa cu Pini is also a nature reserve, designated under Romanian Law No. 5/2000. It preserves palaeontological and landscape features along the upper reaches of Pârâul Coza. From Coza, a red-band-marked hiking trail runs through Stramtura Coza; the route then continues along an unmarked path. Because of this unmarked section, you should check the route before setting off. The three natural destinations thus differ not only in the features they protect, but also in the access routes described for each.

Monastery, Churches and Regional Cuisine

Lepșa Monastery stands on the banks of the Putna River in Tulnici Commune. The history of monastic life there dates back to around 1774. Its main church is dedicated to the Nativity of the Mother of God. This gives the monastery a distinct cultural and historical focus alongside the natural areas: its riverside location, the church’s dedication and the approximate historical date each tell a different part of its story.

The church of “Sfântul Ioan Botezătorul” stands in the village of Coza. Built in 1873, it is classified as a local architectural monument. Its protected status and construction date make it another specific point of interest for visitors who want to explore local architectural history as well as the landscape.

One local culinary highlight is the “La Moise” Local Gastronomic Point. There, ripe tomatoes, aromatic onions, crisp cucumbers, fresh chicken eggs and all kinds of vegetables from the garden are prepared as dishes. These ingredients add a tangible local touch to the culinary experience without implying any particular menu.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

If you are looking for a holiday rental in Tulnici Commune, choosing a focus can help with your planning: would you mainly like to visit the protected areas, each with its own trail and admission rules, or would you rather centre your trip on cultural and historical visits to the monastery and church? Regional cuisine adds a culinary dimension to these themes. Arrange your visits according to the relevant access conditions and check the information for each destination before setting off.
