All seasons are recommended for visiting Cascada Cailor. The waterfall reaches its greatest flow during the snowmelt, around April and May; conditions on site may vary.

Cascada Cailor and the Piatra Rea Nature Reserve

Cascada Cailor lies on the northern slope of the Munții Rodnei at an altitude of 1,300 m and has a total length of 90 m. It is part of the Piatra Rea Nature Reserve, a scientific nature reserve within Parcul Național Munții Rodnei. Piatra Rea is known for the numerous edelweiss specimens found there.

The easiest way to reach the waterfall is by chairlift from Complexul Turistic Borșa. Check whether the lift is currently operating before your visit. This lets you plan your waterfall visit around two specific factors: seasonal water flow and access by chairlift.

Mountain routes and nature trail

The Complex Turistic Borșa – Cascada Cailor – Șaua Știol – Pasul Prislop hiking trail is a marked tourist mountain route. Another route is in Borșa, Maramureş, within Parcul Național Munții Rodnei: Cascada Cailor – Podu Cailor – valea Cimpoiasa – Borșa Fântâna. The names distinguish the destinations mentioned, Pasul Prislop and Borșa Fântâna, and provide a specific starting point for choosing a route.

Another starting point is the nature trail, which begins in Stațiunea Borșa at an altitude of 800 m. It ends at 1,800 m above Lacul Izvorul Bistriței (Lacul Știol), in a dwarf pine thicket. The start and end points are therefore at significantly different elevations. Trail conditions and signage may change; check both before setting out.

Lifts and winter sports

The Telegondola and Pârtia Olimpică operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitor passes allow you to ride the lift solely to visit the upper area; ski or snowboard equipment is not required. If you plan to use this option, check the latest operating information in advance, as operating conditions may change.

Pârtia Vârful Știol is of medium difficulty and is served by a drag lift. As seasonal operations may change, check the current conditions before planning a winter visit. The details about difficulty and lift type help distinguish this slope from the ride to the upper area on the Telegondola.

Horse activities and a monument

Cai Borșa Maramureș offers horseback rides and carriage rides. Children can learn to ride and care for horses there. If you plan to take part in one of these activities, confirm current availability directly.

Monumentul Eroilor in Borșa offers a different focus: the ensemble consists of three obelisks and is located near the former military hospital in the Gara district, on Strada Eroilor. Its precise location and three obelisks make the monument a specifically identified cultural destination alongside the natural attractions and activities.
