Between the Argeș floodplain, historic wooden architecture and an active local cultural scene, Bascov Commune offers several ways to shape your stay. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can start by deciding whether landscapes, cultural sites or travel arrangements will be your main priority. The commune can be explored from different perspectives: its location between two landscapes, its transport links, and its church and cultural history.

Landscapes between the Piedmont, plateau and river

Bascov Commune lies in a transition zone between the Getic Piedmont and the Pitești Plateau. The commune includes both part of the Argeș floodplain and the Cotmeana Platform. The river flows from north to south along the left-hand side of the commune, through its floodplain. The Cotmeana Platform is considered a plateau with relatively flat, stable terrain that is not at risk of flooding. Thus, floodplain and platform landscapes sit side by side as distinct types of terrain. The transition zone describes the regional setting; the floodplain and platform offer more precise points of reference for the commune’s landscapes.

Travel by rail and road

The Pitești–Curtea de Argeș railway line runs through Bascov and is served there by Bascov station. On the road, the paved DN7-E51 runs for approximately 7.5 kilometres through the commune, connecting it with Pitești and Râmnicu Vâlcea. In the centre of Bascov, the DJ703 branches off from the DN7 and heads towards Pitești and Curtea de Argeș. These connections offer different reference points for planning your journey: for rail travel, the station is the local point of reference; for a road trip, the routes mentioned are key. Check the current road route before setting off.

Wooden churches with their own architectural history

The wooden church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” in Glâmbocu was built in 1808 by Dascălul Radu and local villagers. Its enclosed porch was added in 1869. Access is via the E81 and the Bascov–Glâmbocu route; from there, it is another 300 metres along the paved DC212B local road to the church. Check the current road conditions before setting off and take the stated access route into account when planning your journey.

A second wooden church, “Sfântul Gheorghe” in Bascov, is a historic monument located about 300 metres from the commune’s administrative centre. It was endowed in the mid-18th century by the Pitești merchant Martin Buliga. The two churches offer different historical points of interest: for Glâmbocu, the defining dates are its construction and the later addition of the porch; for “Sfântul Gheorghe”, they are Buliga’s endowment and its approximate distance from the administrative centre.

Cultural life and dated events

The “Doina Bascovului” ensemble, comprising 49 artists including soloists, instrumentalists and dancers, performs at the Bascov Commune House of Culture. The six-member male vocal group “Rapsozii Bascovului” also performs there. The two groups have different line-ups: an ensemble with soloists, instrumentalists and dancers, and a male vocal group. At the 2025 “Ziua Comunei Bascov” celebration, the artistic programme featured the orchestra, soloists, rapsozi and dancers of “Doina Bascovului”.

Another dated example of recreational use comes from 15 May 2026: on that day, the Islaz, Aninoasa picnic and recreation area in the Brăileni district was used for relaxation, exercise and artistic activities.

Choose a holiday rental to suit your travel plans

When looking for a holiday rental, it is worth deciding first what you want to focus on during your stay. Bascov station is a point of reference for rail travel; if you want to visit the wooden churches, you can factor the road connections described above and the route to Glâmbocu into your plans. Compare the specific accommodation address with your mode of travel and the places you want to visit. This will help you choose according to your own travel plans and take transport routes and cultural attractions into account together.
