On Réunion’s west coast, the beach at La Saline-Les-Bains stretches for several kilometres. Expanses of white sand, coconut palms and the turquoise lagoon protected by the coral reef define the landscape. When choosing a destination, the coastal scenery and the lagoon as a natural environment go hand in hand. The beach can also be compared with nearby l’Hermitage; at neighbouring Trou d’Eau, the lagoon offers additional activities.

Beach and Lagoon

The beach at La Saline-Les-Bains is described as more intimate and quieter than nearby l’Hermitage beach. This description sits alongside its stretch of several kilometres along the west coast. When choosing a trip, you can distinguish between two aspects: the beach’s described character and the length of the coastline.

The lagoon is designated a marine reserve, threaded with coral and fish, and no more than two metres deep. You can explore its marine biodiversity with a mask, fins and snorkel. The lagoon is therefore not only part of the coastal scenery, but also a natural environment in its own right to discover during this activity.

The water temperature in the La Saline lagoon ranges from 23 to 29 °C depending on the season; actual temperatures may vary. This range provides a seasonal guide, not a fixed temperature for every day of your visit. If water temperature is important to your travel plans, take the time of year into account and treat the figures as general seasonal guidance.

Water Activities

At the neighbouring Trou d’Eau beach, you can explore the lagoon by kayak or paddleboard. This complements snorkelling with a different way to explore: with a mask, fins and snorkel, you focus on the marine biodiversity; by kayak or paddleboard, you explore the lagoon. The two options offer different perspectives on the same body of water.

Experienced people with their own equipment kitesurf at Trou d’Eau on windy days; no kitesurfing lessons are offered on Réunion. If you are considering this activity, wind, experience and your own equipment are the specific conditions to bear in mind. As local offerings may change, check the latest information in advance.

Facilities at Plage de La Saline

Handiplage Les Dauphins at Plage de La Saline is set up for people with reduced mobility and older people. Tiralo beach wheelchairs and access mats to the sea are available free of charge on simple request; adapted toilets and showers are also available. The request requirement applies to the beach wheelchairs and access mats. Check the current facilities before your trip, as they may change.
