Discover Rincón through its surf culture, varied beaches, and distinctive cultural sites. The coast offers different options: surfing and competitions take center stage in some places, while others are suited to swimming, walking, or photography. When planning time by the water, it is also important to check the conditions at each location.
Beaches and Conditions by the Water
Steps is located in the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. Steps Beach is suitable for outdoor photography; you can also walk and sunbathe on the beach. Tres Palmas is one of Rincón’s well-known surf beaches. In bad weather, high waves there can be dangerous for beginners. 3 Palmas is not recommended for beginner surfers or swimmers. Snorkeling is an option when there are no waves. Check local surf and marine conditions before spending time by the water.
Playa Domes is located between the lighthouse and the decommissioned nuclear power plant. The beach is used for surfing and sunbathing and is among the beaches most frequently visited by surfers; it is also known for surf competitions. The decommissioned nuclear power plant, formerly BONUS, is a distinctive landmark near the Punta Higüera Lighthouse. Playa Marías is also known for surf competitions.
Playa Indicador is located between Playa Marías and Playa Domes. Because of the strong currents, the beach is not recommended for beginner surfers. Sandy Beach is in Puntas Barrio. Black Eagle (Marina) is suitable for swimming and water sports; swimming is prohibited in the boat-ramp area. Follow the posted conditions there, as suitability and safety can vary. Playa Los Almendros is recommended for swimmers.
Traces of the Railroad and Surf History
In Pueblo Barrio, La Cambija was built in 1872 to store water for the municipal railway that ran through Rincón. In Barrero, Muralla y Túnel de Barrero includes Spanish tunnels in the area of the railway wall. The site is suitable for photography and watching the sunset.
El Bote de Millán is a tribute by Emiliano (Millán) Altiery to the fishermen and commemorates the fact that Gran Millán was at this location. The Galería del Surfing is located in Centro Empresarial Ventana al Mar. It presents a historical overview of surf legends who were active on Rincón’s beaches. Another cultural site is the restored former Escuela de la Cultura, previously known as Juan Ruiz Pedroza, which is now a center for art and culture.
