Lordelo can be explored through two distinct themes: Romanesque heritage, represented by the Torre dos Alcoforados, and paths alongside waterways. There is also a park for leisure and sports activities, with named animal species, as well as other opportunities to get active. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these differences can help you weigh up whether to focus your stay on culture, nature or a longer route.

Romanesque Heritage and Visitor Services

The Torre dos Alcoforados is located in the Torre district of the municipality of Lordelo. It is also known as Torre Alta or Torre dos Mouros, is part of the Rota do Românico and is classified as an Imóvel de Interesse Público (Property of Public Interest). This gives Lordelo a clearly defined cultural theme: the tower is associated both with its district and with the Romanesque Route.

The Rota do Românico information centre in Lordelo primarily welcomes and assists visitors and tourists. It opened in 2016 in a former manor house next to the tower. This places a protected tower and a specific visitor service in close proximity; both are part of the Rota do Românico theme.

Riverside Paths and Wildlife

The Eco-caminhada runs alongside two waterways: about 1,160 metres along the banks of the Rio Ferreira and about 780 metres along the banks of the Ribeira das ĂŤnsuas. The section alongside the Ferreira is therefore longer. The approximate figures allow a direct comparison of the two riverside routes by distance.

Parque do Rio Ferreira covers an extensive area in Lordelo and Rebordosa, connecting the two neighbouring municipalities. It serves as a space for leisure and sports activities. The park is home to species including robins, kestrels, little owls, barn owls, jays and hedgehogs. The park’s listed themes therefore include both wildlife watching and physical activity.

Activities and Longer Routes

Alameda de Portugal is characterised by a short, winding path that emphasises its gradient, and has a fitness and exercise trail. This brings together a scenic path and an offering specifically designed for physical activity.

The Trilho das Pedreiras offers a different scale. A description published in 2024 gives an approximate length of 10 kilometres, starting in Lordelo and continuing through Vilela, Duas Igrejas, Vila Cova de Carros, Cristelo and Besteiros. The sequence of places thus takes the route beyond its starting point and through several municipalities. In terms of distance, it is considerably longer than the Eco-caminhada’s approximately 780 and 1,160 metres; this provides a concrete reference point if you are comparing options by approximate route length.

Mills and Production History

The Moinhos (Penhas Altas/Lordelo) are watermills visible along the banks of various watercourses. They bear witness to the end of the grain-production cycle. Alongside Romanesque heritage, the area’s former grain production therefore offers another distinct historical perspective on Lordelo.
