Folgosa offers several distinct ways to plan your trip: rural trails, cultural sites and a circular cycling route. The lengths and routes of the PR trails can help you plan your day around the time you have available and your interests. When choosing where to stay, first consider whether you mainly want to explore the trails, the churches and festivals, or a combination of these themes.

Routes by length and route

The PR2 – Caminhos Rurais de Folgosa is a 3.1 km circular route along rural paths in the parish. The route passes Vila Paulista, the former parish residence in Folgosa. The PR1-Vilar de Luz is longer, at 5.5 km, and follows agricultural and forest paths. Its route includes areas planted with native flora; it also passes the Ribeira da Junqueira. Both routes are circular, but differ significantly in length and in the landscape features described.

Another type of route is the PR4 – Lugares no Alto de Folgosa e S. Pedro Fins: this 6.1 km linear trail runs through the parishes of Folgosa and São Pedro Fins. Along the way, it follows forest paths and the so-called Estrada Real. The PR3 – Rota Produtos da Terra is 4.6 km long and runs through a fertile area suited to agriculture and livestock farming. It starts at the Terreiro of the Capela de Santo Ovídio. The route includes a visit to the Sweet Moranguinho farm; if necessary, check the arrangements for visits in advance.

There is also a dedicated option for cycling: a circular cycling route, about 4.2 km long, runs around AerĂłdromo Municipal de Vilar de Luz. It therefore differs from the PR trails both in how you travel and in its route. As operating conditions can change, it is worth checking the condition of the cycling route before setting off.

Green spaces and local culture

Jardim do Olheiro is a place to stop in Folgosa. The grounds include a landscaped lawn as well as native shrubs and trees. There is also a children’s playground and some outdoor fitness equipment. The garden offers a different kind of stop from the routes through rural, agricultural or forest areas.

Notable buildings include the Igreja de São Salvador de Folgosa. Its façade is clad in azulejos and flanked by two bell towers. The Capela de S. Frutuoso - Folgosa was built over an older chapel. Its distinctive features include gilded woodcarvings and religious images. If you want to focus on local churches and their different architectural and artistic features, they offer a distinct cultural focus for your trip.

The Capela de Santa Cristina also connects a religious tradition with a building: the veneration of Santa Cristina at this chapel is attributed to the Middle Ages. The festival for Santa Cristina and Santo OvĂdio at the Capela de Santa Cristina takes place on the first Sunday in September. Check the specific date of the relevant edition when planning your trip. The Festival Cultural de Folgosa is considered a tradition in the parish. At the 10Âş Festival Cultural de Folgosa held in Folgosa in 2025, the 40Âş Festival de Folclore Folgosa took place, organised by Rancho Regional de SĂŁo Salvador de Folgosa.
