Oliveira Do Hospital can be explored through a variety of experiences: waterside spots along the Rio Alva, trails through the landscape, and traces of Roman, medieval and prehistoric times. The tradition of Queijo Serra da Estrela is woven throughout, tangible both as a product and through encounters with authorised producers. Waterside spots and routes

At Zona Balnear Ponte das Três Entradas, the waters of the Rio Alva invite you to swim and enjoy picnics in the shade of trees. The bathing area is unsupervised and is not a classified beach. The two waterside spots therefore have different focuses: ramps, an amphibious chair and water sports at Praia Fluvial, and swimming and picnics at Ponte das Três Entradas.

The trails offer two different scales. PR6 OHP – Rota do Narciso is a 16.4-kilometre circular route in the “Rios e Zonas Húmidas” corridor. The Grande Rota do Alva covers 77 kilometres, crosses Oliveira Do Hospital and is defined by the Rio Alva. This lets you compare a shorter circular route with a considerably longer one.

Roman history and stone monuments

The Centro Interpretativo de Bobadela Romana presents the history of the ancient city through texts, photographs, illustrations, interactive multimedia technology and a documentary film. It also displays archaeological finds from the excavations at Bobadela. The amphitheatre at the Ruínas Romanas de Bobadela was used for games and combat.

The Museu Municipal Dr. António Simões Saraiva preserves works of art and ethnographic collections. It is housed in a former manor where General Gomes Freire de Andrade lived in the early 19th century. The building’s historical associations and the collections offer two different perspectives on the museum.

The Antas also differ in the structural features described. Anta da Arcainha is a funerary monument with a polygonal chamber, a relatively long passage, a surviving capstone and a surrounding burial mound. At Anta da Cavada, the chamber consists of nine supporting stones and is covered by a slab. At Arcainha, several parts of the monument stand out; at Cavada, the focus is particularly on the construction of the chamber.

Cheese and regional products

Queijo Serra da Estrela is an aged sheep’s cheese with a straw-yellow rind and a semi-soft, buttery, ivory-white paste. The Roteiro Queijo Serra da Estrela gives visitors the opportunity to meet authorised producers who make and sell the cheese.
