Explore Borne Sulinowo through several distinct themes: its nature reserve landscape and glacial lakes, trails for walking or cycling, local history, and water-based activities. When choosing the focus of your trip, it helps to distinguish between the specific route length, the character of the landscape and the historical context. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests—from nature and trails to the town’s military past.
Nature Reserve and Glacial Landscape
The “Diabelskie Pustacie” nature reserve covers 932.04 hectares. Within the Borne Sulinowo administrative district, 637.63 hectares belong to the Nadleśnictwo Borne Sulinowo forest district. The nature reserve lies within the Natura 2000 site of the same name. The two area figures refer to different units: 932.04 hectares is the total area of the nature reserve, while 637.63 hectares is the part of the forest district within the administrative district.
The blue “Kraina Odwróconego Krzyża” cycle route passes through two glacial valleys that meet at right angles along its middle section. They contain five lakes and together form the shape of an inverted cross. The black “Kraina małych jezior” cycle route focuses on a different landscape: it passes through pine forest dotted with small glacial lakes and runs between the villages of Rakowo, Komorze, Okole, Uniemino and Strzeszyn. Both cycle routes start and finish at an intersection in Borne Sulinowo. The key difference is that the valley shape and lakes define the scenery along the blue route, while pine forest and small lakes define the black route.
Nature Trail on Foot or by Bicycle
The approximately 9.1 km nature trail runs from the area around the former Soviet cemetery in Borne Sulinowo to a vehicle rest area by Lake Rymierzewo. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle. Its approximate length and named endpoints provide a clear reference for planning, and you can choose whether to walk or cycle the route.
The Town’s Military History
Borne Sulinowo was established as a rear base and barracks for the military training ground and housed the Wehrmacht artillery school. This historical background offers a different perspective on the town from the trails through valleys, lakes and pine forest: here, the focus is on its former military role.
Activities in the Municipality and Nearby
At the municipal level, the Piława is the largest river in the Borne Sulinowo municipality and a popular, attractive canoe route. Alongside cycling and the nature trail, a river route is another option to consider for your trip.
Near an island close to the town lies the “sunken forest,” a popular diving site. The activities described range from cycling and walking to canoeing and diving, each with its own landscape setting and different ways to shape your stay.
