As a destination, Brzózki brings together several distinct points of interest: the edge of the Puszcza Wkrzańska forest, a hunting lodge in Popielewo, natural features and the shore of the Zalew Szczeciński. When choosing accommodation, it helps to first consider whether landscape, local history or nature will shape your stay most. You can then assess specific options based on their location in relation to your preferred focus.

Forest, Water and Local History

Brzózki lies on the edge of the Puszcza Wkrzańska forest. The shore of the Zalew Szczeciński is about 1 km from the centre of the village. These two details use different geographical reference points: the forest marks the village’s position at the edge of the landscape, while the distance to the shore is measured from the centre. Until 1945, Brzózki was called Althagen; this former name adds a historical time marker to the geographical picture.

Hunting Lodge and Park in Popielewo

A dilapidated 19th-century hunting lodge stands in Popielewo, a part of Brzózki. Together with the name Althagen, used until 1945, it provides two historical time references: the lodge’s construction history and Brzózki’s former name. If you are particularly interested in historic buildings when choosing a destination, the hunting lodge offers a specific point of interest. A park surrounds the lodge and has retained its original boundaries. It is home to numerous protected trees and shrubs, including Caucasian oak, Sitka spruce and royal fern. The building and the park thus represent two distinct sides of Popielewo: one historical and one botanical.

A Natural Monument in the Forest

In the forest south of Brzózki grows a pedunculate oak designated as a natural monument, with a trunk circumference of 3.95 m. It offers a different natural highlight from the park in Popielewo: the oak is a single tree monument with a specific measurement, whereas the park brings together numerous protected trees and shrubs, including individual species. Nature lovers can therefore explore two different scales: a single tree in the forest and protected plants in a park. Trunk circumference is the measurement around the trunk, not its diameter. The figure of 3.95 m therefore describes the girth of the oak; it is a different measurement from the tree’s height.

Hiking Trail and Choosing Accommodation

The red-marked Szlak Puszczy Wkrzańskiej trail passes through Brzózki. This provides a specific connection to hiking, alongside the forest and nature. The route passes through the village, while the distance to the shore is measured from the village centre; these two reference points therefore answer different planning questions. You can tailor your search for a place to stay to whichever travel interest matters most to you.
