Natural Monument and Protected Landscape
A prominent natural feature in Zastań is the pedunculate oak “Zastańczyk.” It is protected as a natural monument because of its natural history, scientific and landscape values. The resolution of 16 July 2014 documents its permanent protection. Its trunk circumference is 522 centimetres, measured at a height of 1.3 metres. The measurement height is part of the information: 522 centimetres refers to the circumference at this measurement point, not the height of the tree. For travellers interested in nature, the oak is a specific local point of reference; its protected values add the reason for its special designation to the figure for its size alone.
The planning area in Zastań is also located in a designated natural area: it lies within the Natura 2000 sites Zalew Kamieński i Dziwna (PLB320011) and Ujście Odry i Zalew Szczeciński (PLH320018). The Dziwna and adjacent wetlands and reed beds lie east of the planning area. These references operate at different scales: the oak’s protection concerns a named tree, while the Natura 2000 designation applies to the planning area; the river, wetlands and reeds describe the landscape to the east. Zastań’s natural environment can thus be considered through both a specific tree and a broader area framework.
Local History, Recreation and Access
Another cultural point of reference is the registered archaeological site Zastań, site 2, in AZP area 18-07/6. It is protected as an archaeological site. The outdoor fitness area offers a different kind of specific detail: in 2025, it was equipped with a horizontal ladder and a vertical ladder, a bench, a pull-up bar with handles and gymnastic rings. An information board with rules for use was also installed there. These details emphasize different things: the site represents archaeological heritage, while the fitness area’s equipment is for outdoor exercise.
The Ośrodek Produkcyjny Zastań oil production centre of the Kamień Pomorski oil field is located on Wolin Island, north of Zastań in the direction of Zalew Kamieński. Access is permitted only with prior approval from PGNiG. If you plan to include this location in your itinerary, obtain permission before approaching. A further geological reference concerns the area around Kamień Pomorski: oil deposits were discovered there in 1972 in the Main Dolomite formations. This is a historical fact about regional geology and should be distinguished from access to the production centre.
The Wider Area: Wolin Municipality
At the municipal level, the view broadens to include additional tourist resources. These include the waters of Zalew Szczeciński and the Baltic Sea, the Dziwna River, Lake Koprowo, the Wolińskie Lake District, and the Ostrowo and Piaski lakes. Other features include forest complexes, including the forests of Woliński National Park, a varied landscape, existing tourist routes, and good road, rail and water connections. Water bodies account for 21 percent of the municipality’s area. Alongside Zastań’s specific natural and cultural points of reference, waters, forests and routes offer further aspects of the surrounding area for travellers. If you are looking for accommodation, the municipal level can provide an additional context for choosing your destination, while the oak, wetlands and archaeological site remain specific local points of reference.
