A 26 km Blue Hiking Trail passes through Dargobądz, while archaeological sites, a cemetery and nearby castle ruins point to a layered history. This gives visitors two distinct areas of focus: learning more about the route or exploring the town’s historical traces. The two named sections of the trail and the various historical points of interest help you narrow down what interests you.

Hiking the Blue Trail

The Blue Hiking Trail is 26 km long in total and passes through Dargobądz. Two named sections help you choose your route: Karnocice to Dargobądz is 2.0 km, while the section from Dargobądz to Mokrzyca Mała is 4.5 km long. This makes the section starting in Dargobądz 2.5 km longer than the one leading to the town. You can therefore choose between a shorter section ending in the town and a longer stage from there to Mokrzyca Mała.

The section of the Blue Hiking Trail through Dargobądz is considered typical of a rural landscape. The Blue Trail also offers walks close to the Szczecin Lagoon, and numerous bird species typical of the local biotopes can be observed along the route. Hikers can thus enjoy both rural scenery and the lagoon’s proximity, as well as birdwatching. If you’re planning your hike around the landscape or birdlife, you can take these aspects into account alongside the length of the section.

A hike to the cliffs on the Szczecin Lagoon can end in Dargobądz. The Dargobądz hiking trail terminus is also connected to a PKS bus stop. If bus service is relevant to your plans, check the current timetable in advance.

Historical traces around Dargobądz

Not far from Dargobądz, on the summit of Gór Mokrzyckich, lie the ruins of Żurawice Castle (Żurawiec), also known as Apenburg. The castle was destroyed shortly after the Second World War. The ruins are therefore in the vicinity of the town, not in Dargobądz itself.

The disused Protestant cemetery in Dargobądz is close to the castle ruins and contains a tombstone dating from 1870. There is also an archaeological burial ground in the town, registered as AZP 21-05, site 5. The site “osada, st. 1” is listed as a settlement in Dargobądz.

The historical points of interest differ in both location and period: the castle ruins are in the vicinity, while the cemetery and both archaeological sites are located in Dargobądz. The tombstone gives the specific year 1870; the castle was destroyed shortly after the Second World War. The burial ground and settlement add archaeological history to these two chronological markers.
