Warniłęg is one of the summer villages on the shores of Lake Drawsko. For trip planning, the village combines a distinct landscape setting with cultural history and longer routes. The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and other historic features offer insights into the village’s past; a black hiking trail and a red cycling route pass through Warniłęg. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether you would rather plan your stay around the village’s historic features or a planned hike or bike ride.
Neo-Romanesque Church and Local History
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built of brick in the Neo-Romanesque style in the second half of the 19th century. Its presbytery is set apart from the rest of the building and has a three-sided end. The entrance and windows have round arches; the building has a gabled roof, while the presbytery is topped by a roof with three sloping sides. The presbytery is the area of the choir; in Warniłęg, its distinctive form can be described by its separation from the main building and its three-sided end. These features provide several specific points of reference for understanding the church’s architecture.
The church’s furnishings include a detail on the door handle: it is S-shaped and ends in a volute. It connects to a bust with a full face framed by curls. The circular fitting is decorated with a plant motif. For those interested in architecture, this detail offers a different perspective from looking at the building’s form and roof: it draws attention to the design of a single component.
The church’s history also includes 17 February 1947. On that day, the Protestant church in Warniłęg was consecrated as the Roman Catholic Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This date adds a specific historical reference to the architectural context of the 19th century.
Another distinct feature is in the bell tower at the cemetery in Warniłęg. The bell is chalice-shaped and hangs from a six-pointed crown. Its clapper is made of cast iron and has a ball at neck height; the bell’s crown is decorated with acanthus leaves. This description clearly distinguishes the bell, its suspension, the clapper, and the crown—a close look at an object from the village’s history, rather than at the church’s architecture.
Historic Traces and Landscape
Warniłęg is also home to a landscape park dating from the second half of the 19th century. A historic boundary stone has been preserved in the forest west of the village. Together with the church, these two features broaden the picture of the destination: local points of interest include a building in the village, a park with a historic date, and a boundary stone outside the village.
Hiking Trail and Cycling Route through Warniłęg
The 71-kilometre black hiking trail, “Szlak Przyrodniczy Drawskiego Parku Krajobrazowego,” runs from Połczyn-Zdrój to Lubieszewo. It passes through Warniłęg, through the varied landscapes of Drawsko Landscape Park, and beyond its boundaries towards Lake Lubie. Its length and two endpoints make clear that it is a longer route, not a short loop around the village. Check the current trail markings before setting out.
The 60.7-kilometre red “Drawa” cycling route also passes through Warniłęg and forms a loop that starts and ends in Złocieniec. The two routes therefore differ both in mode of travel and in their course: the hiking trail runs between Połczyn-Zdrój and Lubieszewo, while the cycling route loops back to Złocieniec. For planning, this distinction is more useful than comparing the two routes solely by their distance in kilometres.
Warniłęg is a useful search destination if you want to combine a stay on the shores of Lake Drawsko with local history or a route that passes through the village. This lets you assess the village based on the things that genuinely interest you, without turning the two routes into a single outing.
