Kąpielisko Ogonki is an unsupervised beach on Lake Święcajty; sailboats can moor at a wooden pier. The lake, cycling routes and historical connections offer different perspectives for planning a trip to Ogonki.
Beach and scenery on Lake Święcajty
Kąpielisko Ogonki is located directly beside National Road 63 and is separated from it by safety barriers. On the other side of the road, opposite the beach, there are ice cream stands, cafés, restaurants, mountain bike rentals and a car park. The beach and these amenities are therefore on opposite sides of the road. Beach conditions, as well as individual businesses and seasonal offerings, may change.
The wooden pier at Kąpielisko is a place where sailboats can moor; availability may vary depending on local conditions. Ogonki lies on Lake Święcajty, an arm of Lake Mamry. The lake covers 874 hectares and is up to 28 metres deep. Its highly indented shoreline and two islands add distinctive features to these measurements of its form.
Cycling routes to Ogonki
The circular cycling route around Lake Stręgiel takes a path to Ogonki that was laid along a former railway line, passing through marshland. On the section from Pozezdrze to Ogonki, the route shares its course with the blue cycling trail “Błękitna wstęga jezior”.
Another option is the connection from the Green Velo cycling route: a comfortable cycle path branches off from the promenade and follows the former railway line towards Ogonki. The descriptions thus offer different reference points for choosing a route: the circular route links Stręgiel, Pozezdrze and marshland, while the other connection is oriented around the promenade and the Green Velo cycling route. Signage and path conditions may change. Check them before planning a cycling trip.
Waterways and sailing
The Mamry–Sapina waterway ends in Ogonki, where the Sapina flows into Lake Święcajty. The waterway via Lakes Mamry and Święcajty is classified as Class II; navigation conditions are regulated seasonally. If you are planning a trip on the waterway, check the current official information on its classification and navigation. There is also a sailing harbour in Ogonki. The harbour and the pier at Kąpielisko are distinct local points of reference for sailing.
Bunker and ice sailing
A World War II bunker stands by the bridge in Ogonki. It served as a fortification at the strategic passage between the lakes. Before the war, Ogonki and Lake Święcajty were known for ice sailing. These are two distinct historical connections: the military function of the passage and the former significance of ice sailing.
