Sedansk is one of the summer villages that tourists can visit. Two routes with different focuses also pass through Sędańsk: the 55-kilometre Rybitwy cycling route and the 47-kilometre kayak trail on the Saska and Sawica rivers. This gives you a clear first choice when planning your trip: a cycling route or a water route. The village’s history and the area around the lake add two further concrete perspectives on the place to these activity options.

Two routes, two ways to plan

The 55-kilometre Rybitwy cycling route runs from Szczytno via Sasek Wielki, Sasek Mały, Rekownica, Jedwabno, Narty, Brajniki, Nowy Dwór, Sawica, and Janowo to Sędańsk, then back to Szczytno. Sedansk is therefore on a route that starts and ends in Szczytno; the named places show how it continues beyond the destination. The route description, last updated in 2016, states that the route is unmarked. Bear this in mind when navigating, and check current route information before setting out. The 55 kilometres refer to the entire described cycling route, including the return to Szczytno, not just the section to Sędańsk.

The marked kayak trail on the Saska and Sawica rivers is 47 kilometres long. It runs via Jezioro Sasek Wielki, Jęcznik, Janowo, Sędańsk, Jezioro Sędańskie, Jezioro Sasek Mały, and Kucbork Wiebark. In a direct comparison of lengths, the cycling route is eight kilometres longer; the routes also differ in mode of travel and the stated marking information. The kayak route description was last updated in 2016. Check current conditions before your trip.

Village history and the area around the lake

The village’s origins are linked to a specific date: on 21 February 1565, Jerzy “Moelner” was granted four łans of oak forest; Sędańsk was established on this wooded land. The recipient’s name, the area granted, and the date are thus all central to the village’s founding story. This date places Sedansk’s history in the 16th century. The village’s history therefore adds a cultural perspective to the two routes: one way to explore is through activity and route length, the other through the origins of the place.

In the destination’s immediate surroundings, a 2015 route description mentions the village of Sędańsk, a small beach, and a campsite without amenities on the lake’s left bank. The description distinguishes between the small beach and the campsite, whose lack of amenities is a factor to consider. If you plan to visit the beach or campsite, check access and current conditions in advance. This makes the area around the lake a separate planning consideration alongside the cycling route, kayak trail, and village history.
