Miłomłyn combines outdoor activities with a branching waterway and a layered architectural history. The terrain therapy route at Lake Ilińskie, the forest spa park and St. Bartholomew’s Church are in town; a nature trail in the nearby Sosny Taborskiej Nature Reserve extends the options into the surrounding area. This makes it possible to tailor a stay around outdoor activities, water and history.

A route and spa park for outdoor activities

The terrain therapy route runs along a former railway embankment by Lake Ilińskie. It is equipped with solar lights, benches and small footbridges. It can be reached via Jeziorna Street; from there, turn right towards the parking lot by the lake and the bridge. The former railway embankment and lakeside setting give the route a distinct local character.

The forest spa park in Miłomłyn covers just under 63 hectares and offers outdoor recreation and exercise therapy. Inhalation shelters and two therapy stations with outdoor fitness equipment provide specific facilities for these activities. If you would like to focus your stay on relaxation and exercise, the spa park is an obvious choice.

The salt graduation tower has one area for inhalation baths and a separate area for resting and relaxing. It operates from May to October; check its seasonal opening period before visiting.

The Elbląg Canal and waterways

The Elbląg Canal is a tourist waterway that branches out at Miłomłyn: east towards Ostróda and Stare Jabłonki, west towards Zalewo and Iława, and north towards Elbląg. The Miłomłyn lock is on the canal on Kościelna Street. It connects the branch towards Ostróda with the higher water level of the canal towards Elbląg and Iława. Both the branches and the lock connection are important for finding your way along the waterway.

Further afield in the region, excursion boats operate on part of the canal; kayaks and sailboats can travel its entire length. The marina in Miłomłyn has a slipway and a landing stage; a lowered landing stage is intended for light watercraft. If you plan to use the marina, check its current operating status before your visit.

Church architecture from several historical periods

St. Bartholomew’s Church was built between 1898 and 1901. The three-aisled building is Neo-Gothic and has a low clock tower at its northeastern corner. During construction, the Gothic nave was demolished; its north wall and the medieval defensive tower were preserved, with the tower continuing to serve as a bell tower. Thus, the Neo-Gothic design stands alongside surviving parts of an older church building. The building’s history offers a cultural focus alongside the spa park and waterway.

Nature nearby

The Sosny Taborskiej Nature Reserve is in the neighboring municipality of Łukta. Its nature trail is intended for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as adults and children; there are more than ten wooden information boards along the route. The reserve was established in 1957 to protect the local ecotype of Scots pine and natural succession processes in a deciduous woodland habitat. Unlike the forest spa park, which offers outdoor recreation and exercise therapy, the reserve focuses on preserving a specific woodland habitat.
