The yellow-marked OlsztynâZgniĆocha cycle route begins on the southern outskirts of Olsztyn, near the Church of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, in Jaroty. The route is 24 kilometres long. Nearby, the green-marked âDo ĆșrĂłdeĆ Ćynyâ walking trail also heads towards the former village of Jaroty; it is just under 50 kilometres long. This offers a cycle route with a clearly stated distance and a longer walking trail with a different direction of travel to consider.
Cycling, Walking and the Nearby Park
The two routes differ not only in length and mode of travel. The cycle route passes through the forest complexes of the Puszcza-Napiwodzko-Ramucka Forest for almost its entire length, while the walking trail heads towards the former village of Jaroty. When choosing between the routes, you can also take the landscape into account: a forest ride by bike or a longer walking route towards the former village.
The park between NagĂłrki and Jaroty is nearby. It covers almost four hectares and has illuminated paths for walking and cycling, terraces, barbecue areas and a playground. The park offers a different kind of outing from the marked routes: its paths and other facilities are within a defined area. These different features can help you choose between a longer route and a visit to the park.
Jaroty Skatepark
Another specific sports venue is Jaroty Skatepark. Its features include a mini ramp, bank ramps, grind boxes and a quarter pipe. It was built on the site of a disused asphalt court next to a school and is a neighbourhood project funded through Olsztynâs Civic Budget. The skatepark is distinct from the marked cycle and walking routes: its individual skate features define the venue, while the other destinations are characterised by route length and course.
Polish School, Chapel and Commemorative Plaques
The Polish School in Jaroty was founded at the initiative of JĂłzef Malewski and Jakub Barczewski. From 1930 to 1939, it operated in the Barczewski family home. The former schoolâs red-brick building still stands opposite the 19th-century Chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The chapel was incorporated into todayâs Church of Our Lady, Mother of the Church. A commemorative plaque installed on the school building in 1957 recalls the schoolâs work.
The former school building now houses a library and a therapeutic day centre. If you plan to visit, please check access in advance. Another commemorative plaque in Jaroty recalls the arrest of Wojciech KÄtrzyĆski in 1863, after he had supplied weapons to participants in the January Uprising. The two plaques mark different historical themes: one commemorates the school, while the other recalls a specific event in KÄtrzyĆskiâs life.
