A so-called green wildlife bridge was built over National Road 16 in Kromerowo in 2010. It provides a concrete starting point for understanding the different aspects of the village: a historic founding charter, a wayside chapel with distinctive architectural details, and routes to help with planning. If you are looking for accommodation, you can consider whether cultural history, architecture, or cycling and bus planning are important for your stay.

History and Local Context

In the second half of the 16th century, Kromerowo received its founding charter from Bishop Marcin Kromer. This provides a clear chronological anchor for the village’s history. A brick wayside chapel at plot no. 17, by contrast, is dated to the late 19th or early 20th century. When considering local history, it is worth keeping these two periods distinct: the charter concerns the village, while the chapel is a single building.

Chapel Architecture

West of Kromerowo, beside National Road 16, stands a wayside chapel on a stone plinth; it is built of brick. Its ground plan is rectangular. The front has a large pointed-arch niche, while the sides have narrow, tall niches. The roof is a gable roof covered with ceramic tiles, topped by an iron cross and a weather vane bearing the construction date. The chapel is listed as an immovable monument under A-4526; the entry is dated June 3, 2009. The large front niche differs in shape and width from the narrow, tall side niches; the roof covering, cross, and weather vane add to the architectural details.

Location and Cycling Route

Kromerowo lies south of the southern tip of Lake Dadaj. A so-called green wildlife bridge was built over National Road 16 in Kromerowo in 2010. The structure is therefore a more recent, clearly dated point of reference alongside the historical information about the village and chapel.

A 60-kilometer red cycling route passes through Kromerowo; it was described in a forestry program in 2018. If you would like to include it in a cycling trip, check the current route and markings in advance. Its 60-kilometer length calls for a different scale of planning than a visit focused on a single building.

Bus Connections

For bus planning, routes B1 and B2 follow different itineraries. B1 runs from Wipsowo via Ramsówko, Ramsowo, Niedźwiedź, Kromerowo, and Barczewo to Klebark Mały. B2 serves Kromerowo/Wies and runs from Leszno via Barczewo, Tumiany, and Klimkowo. Barczewo appears on both routes; Kromerowo is listed on B1, while B2 serves Kromerowo/Wies. This comparison can help you identify the line relevant to your journey by looking at the places served rather than relying only on the route number. Timetables and routes may change; check the latest departure times and route before travelling.
