Marzecice combines a predominantly agricultural local area with historic brick buildings and harvest festival traditions. Arable land covers 462.71 hectares, almost 80 percent of the entire local area. The natural environment is considered relatively unpolluted. Marzecice is located on provincial road 538, about 3 kilometres from Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. Its rural character, architectural history and festival traditions give the place a distinct identity.

Brick buildings from different construction periods

Several buildings of cultural and historical value reflect different construction periods and uses. These include a brick-built primary school dating from around 1900. House No. 17 is a brick building with wooden gables, dating from approximately 1876 to 1900. Building No. 79 consists of a brick residential building and a brick outbuilding dating from around 1900. No. 5 is a brick residential and farm building from approximately 1901 to 1910 and includes a brick-built blacksmith’s workshop from the first quarter of the 20th century. Residential building No. 80 is a brick building dating from around 1920. The construction periods range from the late 19th century to around 1920; the buildings include schools and homes, farm buildings and a blacksmith’s workshop. Marzecice’s school history includes a school founded towards the end of the 19th century and rebuilt in 1993.

Chapels and religious memorials

The religious memorials also differ in form and origins. On the eastern edge of the village stands the restored wayside chapel of Christ the King, rebuilt after the Second World War. On the western edge stands a statue of the Immaculate Heart of Mary dating from 1956. In 1951, Kunegunda and Anastazy Płoscy built the Sacred Heart wayside chapel in their garden in gratitude for their return from a concentration camp. The memorials thus include two wayside chapels and a statue of Mary.

Harvest festival and community life

On 30 August 2025, Marzecice hosted the Municipal Harvest Festival, Dożynki Gminne. The festival is firmly established in the cultural calendar of the Kurzętnik municipality and celebrates the end of the harvest and its bounty. Traditions include harvest wreaths, regional dishes and festivities shared by the community. Competitions for rural women’s associations to choose the most beautiful harvest wreath and stand are also part of the event. If you would like to combine your trip with the harvest festival, check the dates for your intended year of travel.

The Koło Gospodyń Wiejskich Marzęcice, a rural women’s association, has a tradition spanning more than 40 years. Every year, the association enters harvest wreath competitions at district and municipal harvest celebrations. Together with women from other associations, it organises courses and training in providing agritourism services, as well as in floristry and bouquet design. The association also organises demonstrations of Christmas decoration making. Floristry and bouquet design are course topics; the demonstrations of Christmas decoration making are a separate activity.
