In Mragowo, historic city views meet cultural offerings and experiences by the water. The town hall on the market square, exhibitions on the city's history, festivals at Lake Czos and various discovery trails offer different ways to shape your stay.

Old Town and history

Mragowo Town Hall was built in 1825 and is a central feature of the market square as well as a symbol of the town. In the historic centre, listed tenement houses dating from the 19th century and cobbled streets define the scene. Together, they reflect the character of a former small Masurian town. A branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria is located in the town hall.

The museum in Mragowo dedicates its permanent exhibition to the history of the town and the region. Its timeline ranges from the Stone Age through the era of Roman influences to modern times and the present day. Temporary exhibitions cover a variety of subjects, such as the history of tourism in Masuria, art and local events. This means the programme features changing cultural themes alongside the region's long history.

Another historic landmark is the Mragowo Tower, formerly known as Wieża Bismarcka. It was formally opened on 18 August 1906. It is considered the first Bismarck tower in Masuria and remains the best-preserved structure of its kind in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The visit involves climbing 100 steps past themed exhibitions to enjoy views over Mragowo, the surrounding lakes and the Masurian forests.

Culture and Lake Czos

The amphitheatre on Lake Czos hosts festivals and music events. These include the International Country Picnic, the Festival of Eastern Borderlands Culture and the Belcanto Opera Festival. If you want to plan your trip around a performance, check the specific dates and programme in advance.

Lake Czos has a lakeside promenade and quiet beaches in the town centre. This lets you add time by the water to your city visit without having to plan your stay around a festival or museum visit. The lake is also home to the amphitheatre, though its events and the lakeside areas offer different ways to experience your stay.

Quests and active exploration

The “Mrągowscy Kowboje” quest is 6 kilometres long and takes about two hours. It starts at Mrągowskie Centrum Kultury, ul. Warszawska 26. All you need to take part is a puzzle leaflet: its rhyming clues lead you around the grounds and ultimately to a “treasure.” Before you travel, check where the leaflet is available.

The “Poznaj Mrągowo” quest introduces the history and sights of the town. The two offerings therefore have different focuses: “Mrągowscy Kowboje” uses puzzles to lead you to a treasure, while “Poznaj Mrągowo” is about the town's history and sights. If you want to try this quest, check in advance whether the required materials are available.

For an active challenge with obstacles, there's the Lemur Park high ropes course in Mragowo. It features dozens of obstacles and courses hundreds of metres long, with varying levels of difficulty. Its configuration may change seasonally or following renovations. At the Museum of Military Technology, visitors can touch the exhibits and enter many of them. Access may vary for individual exhibits; if you're interested in a particular one, check in advance.

A kayaking route through the lake district

The 36-kilometre kayaking route on the Dajna connects Piecki, Mragowo and Święta Lipka and passes through the lakes of the Mragowo Lake District. It offers another way to get to know the region's landscape. Water conditions and availability through providers vary seasonally; take both into account when planning.

There are several different ways to choose activities: the town hall, Old Town and museum offer insights into architectural and regional history, while the tower and Dajna route put views and landscape centre stage. Other options include events, quests and more activities in town. The combination that suits you depends on whether you want to explore Mragowo mainly for its culture, by the water or through active pursuits.
