Krutyński Piecek offers several specific points of interest for a stay: the Krutynia River flows through the village, and kayaking trips are organized on the river. The “Krutyń - Rosocha” nature trail also passes through Krutyński Piecek. Nearby is the mill at Zielony Lasek, whose history spans a paper mill, a watermill, and a later production mill. This offers a range of ways to explore the area, from the river route and nature trail to its milling history.

The Krutynia River and its stretches

Below the mill at Zielony Lasek, the Krutynia flows quickly and shallowly over a stony bed because the water is backed up. Farther downstream, it reaches a depth of about one meter and has more underwater vegetation. The stretches therefore differ in current, depth, and vegetation. When planning your trip, bear in mind that the river conditions change along the Krutynia; check local conditions before kayaking.

Kayaking trip with a portage

The kayaking route on the Krutynia passes through Krutyński Piecek. At the historic mill at Zielony Lasek, kayakers must carry their kayak for about 70 meters along the right-hand side to continue toward Rosocha. This change from paddling to carrying is part of planning the route and should be taken into account before setting out. Kayaking trips are organized on the Krutynia; if you would like to join a trip, check its specific availability in advance.

Milling history and technology

The 19th-century mill at Zielony Lasek is listed in Poland’s national register of monuments and its monument inventory. Before it was built, a paper mill that used water from the Krutynia stood at the site. It was shut down in the early 19th century following the introduction of industrial papermaking methods. In 1824, a watermill with a water-powered sawmill was built there.

Around 1890, a three-story production mill was built at Zielony Lasek. The facility included two pairs of millstones and a vertical conveyor for grain and milled products. Together, the millstones and conveyor offer insight into two stages of the work: grinding and moving grain and milled products through the facility. The dates and technical details thus offer different ways to explore the history of milling.

On foot or on the water

The “Krutyń - Rosocha” nature trail passes through Krutyński Piecek. The differences between a walking and a water-based experience are clear: the trail runs through the village, while kayaking involves planning for the portage at the mill and continuing toward Rosocha. This comparison can help you choose the focus of your stay based on how you would like to get around.
