Lake Woszczelskie, the village’s founding history, a listed railway station building and the blue “Morenowe Wzgórza” cycling route give Woszczele several clearly distinct points of interest. The lake lies above the villages of Woszczele and Małkinie; the railway station building is at ul. Lipowa 6. The cycling route also passes through Woszczele, but begins in Siedliska and is a regional route. This brings together a connection to the lake, historical themes and a cycling tour that extends beyond the local area. When planning your stay, you can first decide which of these points of interest matters most to you.

Lake and Natura 2000 site

Lake Woszczelskie lies entirely within the “Jezioro Woszczelskie” Natura 2000 site. Its location above Woszczele and Małkinie and its complete inclusion in the protected area are two distinct geographical facts: one locates the lake in relation to the villages, while the other identifies the area in which the entire lake lies. For orientation, the lake should therefore be treated as a separate point of reference alongside Woszczele and Małkinie. The name of the protected area also incorporates the lake’s name.

Founding and railway station building

Woszczele was founded in 1548 by Marcin Woszczelek, who acquired three łans of village head’s land under Chełmno law. This connects a precise founding year with the founder’s name and the specific acquisition that accompanied the founding. The three łans indicate the extent of the village head’s land in a historical unit of measurement; “under Chełmno law” refers to the legal context of the purchase. The early history of the village can thus be understood not only chronologically, but also through the person involved, the land measure and the legal context.

A different point in time is represented by the brick railway station building at ul. Lipowa 6. It dates from the late 19th century and is a listed building. The founding in 1548 and the building’s construction date are several centuries apart, so the railway station building belongs to a later phase of the village’s history. Its building type, brick construction and listed status give it a distinct cultural and historical character.

The “Morenowe Wzgórza” cycling route

The blue “Morenowe Wzgórza” cycling route begins in Siedliska, passes through Woszczele and is 30 kilometres long in total. This distance applies to the entire route, not just the section through the village. Elevations and difficulty levels vary along the route; these characteristics apply to the route as a whole and cannot be applied generally to the Woszczele section. This allows you to distinguish the stretch through the village from planning the full route. Check current trail conditions before setting out as well.

Mass at the chapel

A Sunday Mass at 11 a.m. is listed for the chapel in Woszczele. As service times may change, confirm the time with the parish before your visit. If you would like to include the service in your day’s plans, checking with the parish is a sensible step.
