Dzierążnia brings together a history spanning several centuries and a landscape of lowlands, hills, ravines, and sunken lanes. This offers two specific perspectives when choosing a destination: the church complex and its architectural features, and the terrain around the village.

A landscape between lowlands and hills

Dzierążnia lies in a lowland area surrounded by hills to the west and north. The named elevations include Biała Góra and Kamienna Góra. Deep ravines and sunken lanes also stretch around the village. The landscape is therefore shaped by more than individual heights: lowlands and hills form distinct landforms, while ravines and sunken lanes are further striking features of the surroundings.

Beside the parish church stands a winter lime tree about 200 years old. A 1996 resolution designated it a natural monument. Fragments of a prehistoric mound can be found at Stoki in Dzierążnia. These details complement the broader landscape description with specific natural and historical features.

If you are weighing cultural and natural themes when choosing a destination, the main points of interest are easy to distinguish: the church brings together dated architectural features and furnishings; the lowlands, hills, and sunken lanes describe the landscape, while the winter lime tree and mound fragments add individual, named features.

Church of Saint Mary Magdalene

The brick Church of Saint Mary Magdalene was built in 1440 to replace an older wooden church. A three-bay Neo-Baroque gate with an openwork upper section and elaborate sculptural decoration leads to the church building. These details alone connect the structure with several periods: its wooden predecessor, the brick church building, and the later design of the gate.

The presbytery has three bays, a polygonal end, and buttresses. Its ribbed barrel vault is decorated with stucco. The Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre, dating from 1646, is located beneath the eastern bay of the presbytery. It has a barrel vault with lunettes. The church complex also includes the brick Innocentium burial chapel, dating from the mid-17th century.

The church’s furnishings include late Baroque altars from the 18th century. Their structures are silver-plated and gilded, and their carved decorations are gilded. The church also has a choir gallery and an organ. The chronology helps put the different details into context: the church building dates from 1440, the burial chapels from the 17th century, and the altars from the 18th century.

Two different perspectives on the village

The church architecture offers a clearly defined focus on building styles, chapels, and furnishings. The landscape, by contrast, draws attention to the lowlands, the hills to the west and north, and the ravines and sunken lanes around Dzierążnia. This can help you decide whether the architectural history, the landscape, or a combination of the two should guide your choice of destination.
