Głogów Małopolski brings together several cultural landmarks around the Market Square and hiking and cycling routes that pass through the town. When planning your visit, you can therefore choose different focuses: architecture and local history, outdoor activities, or a mix of both. A historic jewellery tradition offers another way to explore the town’s history. As you plan your stay, consider which of these interests you would like to devote more time to; this will help you divide your time thoughtfully between cultural topics and activities.
Market Square and local history
A brick town hall with a distinctive tower stands in the Market Square. The Lubomirski family had it built around the mid-18th century. The same square is also home to a historic statue of the Virgin Mary from the 18th century and a statue of Saint Florian, also from the 18th century. The town hall and statues offer different historical perspectives: a municipal building and two religious artworks.
The Market Square also has a multimedia fountain. It is particularly striking after dark, and you can view it from the nearby benches.
The Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Głogowskiej was established at Kościół Trójcy Przenajświętszej on 26 February 2012. This date is much later than the 18th-century statues and offers a different perspective on the religious history of Głogów Małopolski.
The tradition of “głogowskie złoto”
The town’s history extends beyond its buildings and statues. In the 18th century, jewellery made in Głogów Małopolski was widely known as “głogowskie złoto.” It was made from metal alloys that imitated real gold. The name thus points to a historic jewellery tradition and the effect of the materials used. Unlike the town hall or religious artworks, the focus here is on jewellery-making. Visitors choosing cultural topics can thus explore different aspects of local history: architecture, religious depictions, and the tradition of a distinctive jewellery style.
Hiking and cycling routes
The yellow “Dookoła Rzeszowa” hiking trail and a blue hiking trail pass through Głogów Małopolski. Cycling routes also run through the town. Hiking and cycling are therefore two possible focuses if you do not want to devote your entire stay to culture. If you are planning a specific hike, it is worth checking the current route in advance, as routes can change.
Part of the “Bór” nature reserve lies within the boundaries of Głogów Małopolski, adding a protected area to the local attractions.
Sports and leisure
The Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji “Wodnik” in Głogów Małopolski includes a swimming pool, sports fields, a tennis court, an ice rink, a road safety education facility, and an outdoor fitness area. The centre complements the routes with a wide range of sports and leisure facilities. When planning, you can therefore consider whether hiking or cycling should be the main focus, or whether a particular facility, such as the swimming pool, tennis court, or ice rink, matters more. If a facility will shape your stay, check the centre’s current operating status in advance.
