Przemyśl can be explored through several distinct approaches: a late Baroque tower houses a museum devoted to bells and pipes, an underground route leads through cellars and connecting passages, and a walking trail system includes three named routes. The city’s fortress history also offers a specific point of reference in Fort XVI “Zniesienie”. For trip planning, this gives you a choice of crafts, underground city history, walking routes and the fortress complex.

Crafts in the Old Town

The Muzeum Dzwonów i Fajek is located in the late Baroque Wieża Zegarowa in Przemyśl’s Old Town. It displays historical evidence of bell casting and pipe making—two crafts for which Przemyśl was and remains known at home and abroad. Bell casting and pipe making remain distinct topics, but both are connected with the city. The late Baroque Wieża Zegarowa gives this cultural focus a specific location in the Old Town. Those interested in local crafts will find a clearly defined way to explore the city’s history here.

Underground City History

The Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna offers a different focus: it presents Renaissance Przemyśl through an interactive presentation. Its route passes through several cellars beneath the town hall and, via a historic sewer and a newly built underground passage, leads to the cellars at Rynek 9. The Muzeum Historii Miasta Przemyśla is located there. The route is accessible to people with visual or hearing impairments; a total of 16 tactile graphics and exhibits are located at ten stations. The focus here is therefore on both the underground spaces and their connections, and the interactive presentation of Renaissance Przemyśl.

Three Named Walking Routes

For exploring on foot, the walking trail system includes three routes: the Śródmiejski Szlak Spacerowy im. Księcia Przemysława – Założyciela Miasta, the Zasański Szlak Spacerowy im. Orląt Przemyskich and the Kruhelski Szlak Spacerowy im. bł. Jana Balickiego. The Kruhelski also passes through Śródmieście for part of its length. This overlap offers a specific point of comparison when placing the named routes side by side for planning. Unlike the underground route, which passes through cellars and connecting passages, the walking trail system offers three named routes to choose from. The two options therefore have different focuses: walking routes on the one hand, and an underground route with an interactive presentation of Renaissance Przemyśl on the other.

Fortress and Landscape

Fort XVI “Zniesienie” belongs to the inner ring of the Przemyśl Fortress. Zniesienie is also a hill overlooking Przemyśl. These two facts offer different perspectives: the fort is part of the fortress complex, while the hill provides a topographical reference point in relation to the city. In this way, the fortress history and the underground route complement the museum’s craft themes with two other clearly distinct aspects of Przemyśl.
