Leżajsk offers a range of themes to explore: architectural history centered on the Bernardine complex, Jewish memorial sites, stories about people from the city, and a nature trail through the Las Klasztorny Nature Reserve. This is a way to get to know the city through its architecture, history and landscape. The following attractions each have a different focus; the approximate times can help you choose according to your interests.

Church, Organ Art and Jewish Memorial Sites

The complex of the Bazylika pw. Zwiastowania NMP and the Klasztoru OO. Bernardynów includes a church built between 1618 and 1628. In April 2005, the Bernardine monastery complex was granted the status of a historic monument and added to the list of Pomniki Historii (Historic Monuments). The construction period and the complex's subsequent recognition provide two distinct points of reference in time.

The Leżajsk organs are considered one of Europe's most valuable monuments of instrument-making and ornamental art. Thus, alongside architectural history, instrument-making and ornamentation are among the cultural themes that distinguish Leżajsk.

The ohel of the tzaddik Elimelech contains a symbolic stone tomb for Elimelech. Two matzevot belonging to his son Eleazar and grandson Naftali lean against the wall. Elimelech and two generations of his family are thus commemorated in different ways. The Jewish cemetery in Leżajsk is considered Poland's most important Hasidic pilgrimage site.

City Stories on Foot and a Guided Tour

Several local walking guides tell different stories about Leżajsk. “W Leżajsku na piasku, objawiła się przy lasku, Matka Boska Marya…” leads from the monastery to the market square and takes about 50 minutes. “Los rzucony na stos” tells the story of Mielczarkowa, a woman from Leżajsk who was popularly known as the “Witch of Leżajsk”; the tour takes about 60 minutes.

“Tajemnicze zabójstwo w biały dzień” tells the story of Maria Jaroszówna, a young woman from Leżajsk and granddaughter of the well-known Leżajsk notary Alfred Josse; it also takes about 60 minutes. “Biłem Twoim sercem ziemio” tells of the life and work of the poet Tadeusz Hollender, who was born in Leżajsk. He was shot by the Gestapo in 1943 in the ruins of the Warsaw Ghetto; this guide is listed as taking about 50 minutes.

The times make for an easy comparison: about 50 minutes are listed for the route from the monastery to the market square and for the story of Hollender, while the stories about Mielczarkowa and Jaroszówna take around 60 minutes. Downloadable materials for the walking guide “W Leżajsku na piasku, objawiła się przy lasku, Matka Boska Marya…” may change; check them before your trip.

Another guided experience is offered by the Ekspozycja Browarnicza (Brewing Exhibition). The tour takes about 40 minutes, making it shorter than the walking guides mentioned above. Visitors can sample the drink described as a “golden beverage” there. If you plan to take part in the tasting, check before your trip whether it is available.

Museum and Buildings from Different Periods

A permanent exhibition at the Muzeum Ziemi Leżajskiej presents museum objects relating to the history of Leżajsk and its surroundings. The museum is located in the city's historic center. The exhibition thus focuses both on Leżajsk itself and on its wider area.

Individual buildings also make it possible to compare different periods and architectural styles. The Neo-Renaissance town hall was built in 1869–1870. The Proświta building was constructed in 1913 to a design by local architect Lew Szelewicz. Its eclectic façade features Neo-Romanesque windows. The town hall is therefore the older of the two buildings; the surviving description of Proświta highlights its eclectic design and Neo-Romanesque windows.

Nature in Las Klasztorny

A walking and cycling route opened in 2026 through the Las Klasztorny Nature Reserve. It offers direct contact with nature and a chance to discover the area's distinctive natural features. This nature-focused experience complements Leżajsk's historical, cultural and storytelling themes.
